AMD 580 + LG freesync etc

I think it's likely a driver issue, There's been talk about similar issues recently and I sent my Vega Red Devil back earlier in the month thinking it was faulty but when I put my 480 back in it also had issues, admittedly a bit different but enough to make me go & buy a new dp cable at £25 to check if that was at fault, since then I got a new Vega and I moved onto the 18.8.2 drivers where I've had no problem,
It's since buying the new cable that I came across info on current driver issue that had been known to cause one or the other of the two issues I've mentioned.

I'd like to point out to the OP that it's not because AMD drivers are second rate, stuff like this happens sometimes, Nvidia aren't immune to having problems and over the last couple of years AMD have come far with their driver support,
In fact it's just about the only thing Raj Koduri got right during his time as head of RTG, All we have to do is give their driver team time to solve it. If it doesn't do it on an older driver use that for now and leave it a few weeks before you try the next driver.

I'm pretty sure they both have a 'clean install' option that removes the driver completely before installing it fresh after a restart.

They do but some people like to be thorough, That said even with the clean install it doesn't always do the job, especially when we get big driver updates like when we moved to Adrenalin.

What refresh rate are you running your desktop at.?
I remember having glitches like that when running desktop at 144hz using Radeon RX 480 but dropping it to 120hz resolved the problem.

Like to update this and confirm it is freesync thats causing it, Using different gpus such as vega 64 and another 580 which is in my friends system. We got the glitch to occur mutiable times on steam by turning freesync on and off.

So there you have it :P

Thanks for coming back to confirm, will be useful to others having the same issue.

Not necessarily FS, could be a faulty panel or even a firmware bug.

G-Sync Predator XB1 here that can glitch out with pixel shifting-either on one side of the screen or right down the centre which needs monitor switched off/on to fix it, and has a (thankfully)rare signal loss(constant on/off) when you launch games but that requires a full system reboot, same panels used on Asus do it too afaik.

I only use DDU when I know something is wrong but not all of the time. I am using the latest AMD drivers which was flickering during Freesync until I used DDU.

So it does work and is needed sometimes.

So do you have Freesync disabled when in windowed mode/only enabled in fullscreen? Because Gsync gave me endless problems when running in windowed mode it wasn't just games that it kicked in it was running on desktop apps i.e. web browser, media player etc and causing all kinds of issues, driver would crash and even get a BSOD. Driver updates fixed it eventually but for far too long time it was an issue. Leave it on fullscreen only.

DDU should only really be needed when debugging something that's potentially caused by drivers or switching to a GPU made by a different manufacturer. Normal updates do not require it.
