So I get an email from a well known auction site for things I might be interested in.
I look through the listing and I see one for a Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 6800 XT OC 16GB Graphics Card ✅ Preorder ✅...for...wait for it.....£3,000 or best offer...the postage is free though!!!!!
Looking through the images for the card, there is an image which shows the order being delivered today with a total sale of £803.47 incl vat and delivery....
I'm okay with someone making a little profit, this person is just taking the ****!
Will anyone buy it??????
Is this were we are now!?

Yes, don't worry, this crap wont go on for ever, eventually the difficulty gets so high its no longer profitable to do it, that's when the bubble bursts and the used market gets flooded with used cards which in turn will plummet new card prices.

This won't happen because there's not enough hardware to go around in order to spike the difficulty that much. More likely they'll get PoS before difficulty becomes a problem, or the price crashes back to <$1000. Used market won't get flooded though, because the hardware will still generate enough money & the overall supply issues won't be solved for another 2 years due to a whole host of other issues to do with GPU production and the like.

I think there's little chance of people getting RDNA 2 & Ampere before RDNA 3 & Hopper/Lovelace is out, for a decent price. Even for those future ones I think people would likely have to go for a prebuilt in order to get a GPU at a decent price.

The worrying thing is they are not particularly great at mining or gaming ( limited RT / no DLSS ) yet they cost so much.
Garbage like this is what makes nVidia fan boys arguments hard to take seriously. Just because you've been brainwashed to believe you need DLSS, doesn't mean everyone else does. nVidia is surely now a bigger cult than the likes of Scientology?!
indeed they are but not when compared to the competition.
Really? My 6800XT is within 10-15fps of my mates 3090 in the game we play. And he's playing at 1080p while I play at 1440p

Your mates 3090 is probably sitting 50% load at 1080p though

Bug is so upset with DLSS he has a tub of vaseline on standby to smear the monitor just in case.

"Oh crap this thing is working. Better lube up.":D

lol :P

It has its place, but lets be honest about what it is before we send out the message that we are happy with GPU performance stagnation so long as we can press a button that steals half our pixels to get more performance.

Yep, that's exactly why AMD and Nvidia are not rushing to increase production volumes and are happy to ride the wave.
