hey guys my AMD 3500 runs at 2.2Ghz what can i overclock it to safely and would there be a performance leap  . Also how would i overclock it ??
Cheers ;)

hiya mate....

there are plenty of guides to read but it isnt as complicated as it seems....

for an easy overclock i would suggest you increase the FSB (HTT) in your BIOS by increments of 5-10mhz per time and then runprime95....

although this would take ages as people test for eight hours or more to be stable....i would suggest you increase by 20mhz and the run prime95 overnight....

also get a program called cpu-z....

i would then increase by 5mhz and retest....

its upto you as far as you want to take it....

if anyone feels that this is rubbish advice please correct me....

cheers :D

please confirm rest of your specs?

is the cpu a newcastle or winchester?

FYI some ppl can get there 3500 to 2.5 however it all depends on specs, i..e RAM, PSU, cooling ability, type of cpu etc...

i agree, it all depends what core your cpu is... 130nm newcastle's dont realy go much over 2.6 whereas 90nm winnies will go higher because you can increase the voltage more; as they run less at stock.

Iv got mine at 2.55 and its a 130nm, dont think it will go any higher without a voltage increase - which i dont realy want to do

also do all your overclocking in your bios, dont use software to overclock as i've read this can lead to errors. make sure you have good cooling aswel.

i definately noticed a performance increase with mine

for starters download a decent temperature monitoring program so you can see what your cpu is running at.

Then download cpu-z like somebody else mentioned to see specific information about your cpu.

Then download a program called Prime95 to test stability using the torture tests - preferably using small fft test first then moving to large fft and then blend!

Also a rule of thumb dont let your ht frequency go over 1000 - mainly change the multiplier from 5x to 4x and then increase the fsb (cpu freq).

heres and example of mine:

Cpu frequency - 232
Cpu multiplier - x11
ht multiplier - x4

clock speed - 2550
ht speed - 928
