I run the older style AMD CPU (XP 3000 Athlon). I know the current P4 Prescott chips need special cooling hoods and cowels for thier cases.

Do the new AMD 64 and AMD dual core need these fancy cooling pipes. My Lian Li PC-6 plus doesn't have any of these.

No the amd 64s just need a normal cpu cooler.

definitely not....the standard cooler that comes with the reatails chips are more than ample. Overclocking maye require a more advanaced air cooler but thats about it.

and the P4 chips also just need the standard cooler that comes with them...not sure where you are getting the above.

The heatpipe fan with the 4400 dual core is a good heatsink, now using it on the HTPC 3700+ single core :) Stock standard cooler is ok, does the job. Helps these chips run pretty cool as you don't need anything fancy.

I don't think he was getting at anything (everyone seems really hyped-up these days, maybe it's too much red bull, pro-plus and revision?), but the current Intel specification requires a case with a vented chimney directly above the CPU cooler so the CPU cooler has it's own cold air entry point. AMD don't specifiy this, so he did make a valid point.

Yeh Intel to stick a processor ready sticker on the case need to have a ducting to the HSF, windtunnel or just a blowhole with ducting but one of them.

Not to say they don't work without though.

AMD x2's will run just fine in your case though. They are not very hot at all, only about one deg above my 3700+ SD for my overclocked 4400+.

Think you misread or misunderstood what I typed. No red Bull...no pro-plus...and no revision. Just Vodka and Crack! :D

I didnt know about the ducting thing though...pretty stupid if you ask me. Decent system cooling will do the job easily.

Yes decent cooling system will do the job easily.

But the big system manufacturers, which buy a lot more chips than the enthusiast market ever will only go by what Intel say the chips need no more, as they did design them.

The specification has to be able to work for not just the enthusiast market remember. :)

Yes, I did and I apologise unreservedly. I'd lay off the vodka though...
