Hey guys,

I aint been on here a while, I put a new PC together:

AMD X2 6400 Black Edition: I paid £125
DFI LanParty NF590 SLI-M2R/G: £119
4GB Corsair C4 DDR2: £140 (£71 for 2GB on images I only had 2GB)

I already had my case and PSU etc. I really liked my X2 4400 but with my student loan burning a hole in my pocket I felt like treating myself.

I took these images on my G600 haven't learnt how to make the quality good:

Had it to days I'm quite happy, here's some sad facts:

- It can loads Vista in 27 seconds
- It can complete 1M Super PI in 22 seconds (My 440 took 36)
- It has pushed my CS:S FPS from 175fps to 280

I have overclocked it to 3.6ghz don't know if this is too much but tell me what I can do

Overall happy any other people could give me advice on how I could optimise this any better?

I'm glad I'm away from them poor ASRock Mobos now :)

Nice rig matey am on a simular spec but with the 6000 cpu and 2gb geil ram , and crossfire :) x1950xtx and an x1900xt on an msi k9a platinum. I found the nine hundred to get a little boring and dusty so am trying get rid of the mesh and use plastic, out of intrest how much better is the 6400 and is your overclock using the unlocked multiplier?

thanks

Thanks for that mate, I was thinking of getting another X1950 and going Crossfire but I think when I go DX10 I'll just get SLI Nvidia's. I'm an AMD/ATI person but I'm not liking the new ATI's that are coming out.

What did you find wrong with the ASRock mobos?

I just didn't like the performance and the lack of support on the ASRock site. They were good for the money but not good for Overclocking.

WOW 3.6Ghz!?

Have you fully tested it? Is it orthos stable? Is that using that stock cooler? What's the temp like and what volt did you use?

It is a stock Cooler and it does get very hot. I used CPU Stab test for 1 hour and it was fine (although the CPU did get to 65C). I just used the Auto Multiplier I don't like messing about with Voltages myself.

Cheers for Comments.

hope the phenom chips make a good comeback cause these black editions are starting to give us amd owners the slightest glimmer that somewhere amds doing the bang/buck right :) just need ditch my 6000 n get either the 6400 or a 5000 n get clocking :). Also aly051 ill have to show you some pics lol with crossfire :) it sure it tight in there lol will post some when i get back from uni.

Ah cheers can't wait, I'm at Uni too which one you at?

I'm just at Sunderland but it's fun anyway. I do Business Management & Marketing.

Im at staffordshire (stafford campus) doing computing and electronics :) 1st year anyway on with the pics:)

Hope you guys like them... Comments welcome thanks again

Ah sweet my Nan and my Uncle live in Staffordshire (Great Haywood 5miles from Roogley)

Them images put my Antec Nine Hundred too shame.

I love the case one of the best Cases on the market, how come your front looks different to mine?

** Edit

Oh I see what you've done, you've put your two Fan slots two the top and DVD to the bottom, very clever.

Infact I might do that myself it looks much better like that.

Cheers

Aly, how are you finding that DFI board? I had an M2N32-SLI and it was pretty decent for oc-ing, I've heard the DFI is a bit of a beast though.

It is much Much better than I had anticipated. I bought it from my local PC shop that i've used since they began in 2003

It was the last one they had in stock because they had been selling them like mad and I never intended to upgrade. Installation was good, it runs so stable and cool.

Only problem is if you overclock wrong and you endure a system crash you have to restore the Bios or it sets the CPU to a ridiculously low frequency (think it goes as low as 200mhz)

** Edit

Here is my PC now:

Good time for an AMD though, although saying that it is a very nice clock.

Better remove that competitor link aly! (And edit sig to 4 lines text) :p

Thanks I thought it was a good time too.

I removed the link too.

Nice rig dude you have any problems with a lot of dust buildup inside your case and on the grill? cause mie was a real pain when i had all the grill on the front and the meshed side. DFI boards are ace shame it takes them a little longer to catch up with the current sockets.

Yes dust is a problem but my Antec case seems to have a gloss inside on the metal (your's is probobly the same) so the dust slides off easy.

It means all the dust sits at the bottom so it's alright.

The AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ 2.80GHz (65nm) can clock at high as the 6000+'s if a good sample and the Black Editions only bring unlocked Multi's to the table.

Correct what was said above that the Black Edition 5000+ was not that great a overclocker in the THG review but again dpends if you get a good sample or not, my 6000's topped out at 3300mhz.

I've just realised you have the same RAM as me, I bought the RAM blind folded (which I know you should never do) I'm usually and OCZ person but what are the timings like on the Corsair C4. I aint touched my RAM yet except put another 2 1GB sticks in to make 4GB.
