hi,
anyone know what the idle temps and load temps for an AMD 6400+ 3.2Ghz processor should be around?
core 1 idles at 41 and core 2 at 40 and during a massive stress test i've had it up to core 1 84 and core 2 78.

the temperatures get to 80 only after a 5 minuit stress test.
when they reach 70 nvidia system monitor turns red, does this mean the CPU is overheating?
are these temps way to high?

from what i have just found the max cpu temp for this processor is 63 degrees, if it's getting to 80 in a stress test designed to push it hard what are the chances of it overheating during gameplay?

I've got a phenom 9950BE now but when I had my 6400+ I had all kind of troubles because of the cooling (using a basic heatsink and fan). I changed to a Ultra 120 extreme and it fixed it brilliantly, with the u120e I idled in the low 30s and could get it to mid 50s with OCCT, never had any more blue screens after I fitted that...

You don't even want to be going into the 60s with the 6400+ or my Phenom for that matter.

What heatsink/fan are you using and what is your case air flow like?

J.

ive got an AMD athlon 6400+ x2, idle temps i would say are right, but that depends on your heat sink and also how hot it is in your room. Atm when im at my mum my pc temps will float around 40-50, but when im at mine it'll go to 30-40 and on a stress test (regardless of how long) it wont go over 55.
What heat sink have you got on?

it's just on a stock heatsink and fan, i've had it for a while now running ok and just recenlty noticed the temperature rising even when the weather and my room are cooling now. i know it's not good but it's been doing ok and only recently clocking up a temp with that sink and fan.

edit: which cheap-ish cooler would you recomend for this processor?

edit2: can the CPU heat cause the screen to freeze, then turn black with only the mouse displayed still frozen?

I have one with a Heatpipe cooler on and mine idles at 47C and peaks to 60C.

Have no major issues though.

definatly can't be the CPU causing the system to freeze, sound plays still but the image freezes or just goes black.
freezes in games or just black if web browsing and doing another thing at the same time.

open pc, clean fluff out of heatsink and fans, close pc - should get you back down towards the 60's - im betting your HSF is full of fluff, as the stock sink from the 6000/6400 and the old 939 4800/fx60 was pretty good. for the very short time i ran mine with stock sink it was about 59c loaded.

Like Above poster has said, check to see if the heatsink and fan are clogged up with dust and what not as this can make a huge difference to your temperatures.

Also on another note i use an X2 6000+ (the original 125w version) and that used to get really warm with the stock cooler regardless of ambient temperatures with the stock cooler (I averaged 70c under load)

I now use a Artic Cooling Freezer 64 cooler and i now hit 45c under load which is a dramatic difference, i'd definitely recommend it

Just got my AMD 6000 at factory 3.1 clock and my idle is 25c after 40 at room temp, max both cores get me about 35 - 42c mainly due to the beast of a heatsink cant recomend it enough

how can that be so good for such a low price? the commenters on it all love it and says it's cooled theres by quite a bit.

Usually extreme pro comments are not to be trusted on a shop site...
However, the Freezer 64 is a great cooler for the X2's, isn't too bad for Phenom's either...
Much much better than the stock cooler.

what are the best drivers to use with this processor? i let the computer find an update for the drivers, and after installing them the temp starting to go up untill the computer restarted at about 89degrees. currently the drivers from the disk have it running at 46.

Forget the drivers, just let windows sort it out. You may get an update for cool and quiet or the away mode driver but don't worry about them, let your system have them. In the above post you said;

"temp starting to go up untill the computer restarted at about 89degrees"

and in a previous post you have said;

"the temperatures get to 80 only after a 5 minuit stress test"

These procs don't want to be going over 60, you have a porblem, even a bog standard cooler should be keeping it cooler than that, most people in this thread have indicated that under load/stress testing they are getting 45 to 60, I know you have had suggestions/advice like which heatsink to buy, clean your system etc, you have probably done the cleaning at least, if you haven't got yourself a new heatsink and the cpu has not been touched I'd consider re-seating it (the heatsink that is), take it out, clean your heatsink and cpu then apply some TIM (MX2 or AS5), anything really and do the thing again,

i'm changing my computer case, and the CPU cooler, the CPU does get quite hot and from what i've read this CPU isn't meant to get that hot. and i know my CPU cooler sucks compared ot most now.
and with the newst driver that i let the computer find the temp just started to rise after installing them. so now back to my original drivers
