AMD 6990 - WILL BE RELEASED ON MARCH 8TH?!

Well, it's just what Vortez reported what MSI said...

I did say in comparison to the 5970.

yeah i'm not having a go dont worry but just in comparison means to me that compared to the ati 5970 its going to cost considerably more and now you have got me looking for coins in my sofa! :P :(

Well no I'm not because psu calculator with crossfire 6870s 10 fans water cooling and an overclocked i7 only brings it up to 805 watts so no where near 1000 and correct me if I'm wrong the Ati 6990 has downclocked clocks I doubt 1000watt is necessary with a good psu brand but it would be ideal. So if I'm wrong ok fine but just going off the calculator

That includes Hdds etc

Edit 825 sorry.

I've been doing some reading and 2 580s in sli with a CPU overclock pulled 719watts from the wall which at 90% efficiency translates into 650 watts so you might be spot on klo

Time to sleep zzzzz to much number crunching

Was that the cards or the full system? I have seen 1 gtx480 pull more than a 5970 which is around 300watts. From what i have seen the gtx series pull a lot more in some applications than what nv specify. I would say most of the time theres no way a 580/480sli system pulls less than a 650 psu can manage.

Its pretty much suicide trying to run 480/580 sli on anything below 750 and at that its borderline.

Full system I think but your right at 650 watts that would be pushing a 650 watt psu to the max causing umm a lot of fireworks I think this article was on 3dguru il dig it up for you tommrow if you like. So from that I should think a quality 850watt psu like the corsair should be fine. But 1000watt to avoid worrying :p. For a stock Ati 6990.

overclocked I have no idea who would want to overclock it anyhow hahahah

With regard to PSU's. A good PSU like the Corsair AX750 will supply far more than it's rated capacity. It's only the no name brands that weigh less than a packet of crisps that struggle to achieve rated specs and tend to burn the housed down.

From memory the AX750 will supply nearly 900 watts and the AX850 close to a KW.

People tend to really over spec PSU's. A good 750 watt would suffice.
