AMD 69XX delayed officially ?

3100 million triangles per second, which means the 6970 should be half of that, maybe a bit higher since it will probably have higher clocks since it's a single card.

Yeah, I mean I think it's reasonable to assume that the 6970 will probably be clocked around where the 6870 (900MHz) and 5870 (850MHz) are, so that gives us a range of 1700-1800 MTriSec^-1 for Cayman.

In my opinion the most important figure on that slide is the 300watt load power one.
obviously AMD have decided to stick to this limit rather than just let it go the way of the cuckoo like i expected both companies to do.
it will be interesting to see what Nvidia do with their dual gpu card, can they also keep it down to 300w...?

Well, Rroff the other day insisted he was right with his original(and yet guessed by MANY people before) 1536 shader rumour, and used that as proof of his predictions in another thread. Wrong, for the billionth time, admitted if this is true.

1920 isn't a particular stretch, I think as long as , shocking, 3-4 months ago I was saying going up to around 400mm2 give or take, is more than safe on yields, won't raise costs too much and given a 20% size increase, a 20% shader increase was incredibly likely, more performance to come from them being "better" shaders, and better front end potentially.

Either way, being under 300W is, well, possible, but that could take into account a relatively lower load per card when in xfire than you'd get with one card, though with better scaling(if it maintains 6870 type scaling) that will be more of a problem.

THere are options, you can use more expensive metals, or extra layers, and AMD have a little more leeway, lower speed transistors are less leaky and ultra low power expensive processes are more of a possibility for 780Mhz transistors, than 1500Mhz+ ones Nvidia would require.

IE AMD could use a more expensive process, for lower power cores at a higher cost per core to AMD, Nvidia's shader speed and requirement for a leakier shader means they have a LOT less options to do so.

Basically there is no way in hell they can put together a 1024 shader dual gpu card, under 300W, anywhere near 300W, a 512shader one obviously uses around that already.

I'm also assuming a more expensive wafer/core is basically the only way AMD can get a 2 full 6970's even at reduced speed, under 300W.

i like these bits

too long we have all sat there watching lauch after lauch of 2-10% increases in performance from new cards
its about time a new gpu came out with significant gains
i dont like this bit

i personally doubt that ati can deliver on that

and you say you like being right, mixed message there RJ

EEEhhhhhh, are OcUK employee's actively telling us the 69**'s are crap and that we shouldn't consider spending hundreds of pounds at their company this week?

just reviving this thread again

So rjkoneilll has revealed that the new cards are going to be Pap :(

quite the opposite i think
he says that there was nothing stopping AMD releasing the 69xx cards
maybe, just maybe, they have planned to let nvidia think AMD have screwed up and delay to re-evaluate and tweek, when infact they have been able to produce more for less in the delay period, ready to release a big can of whoop-ass,with 20-30% gains on the 580, with loads and loads of stock ;)

gibbo.... bloody fast
raven.... huge % increase via inside
magicroundabout..... huge % increase via inside
catalyst maker via twitter... 15th is gonna be huge
charlie SA......laughing his ass off at the benchmarks

my money is on a fast card !

not pap

just not as godlike as everyone was prophesying

like i proclaimed

and everybody doubted...

so i just wasted 3mins typing this ? ?
