Its a moot point in a way, because its installed now and aint coming out of its socket unless it fails.

However on build day I kinda got a bit stuck trying to get into BIOS, it just seemed impossible, then I figured out (And I should have known) this awesome CPU has onboard graphics too, so plugged in a HDMI cable from motherboard to monitor that is by my default plugged into DVID port to an RTX 3090 and I was in BIOS at last once monitor input was switched.

My question is, can I disable CPU graphics on this processor? Had a look around in BIOS and I don't see anything? Motherboard is an Asus ROG Crosshair X670-E Hero.

VERY IMPORTANT question, but does having the CPU's on board graphics (if enabled) have a performance hit on the CPU if you dont need its graphics ability? ... and I most certainly do not.

Thanks in advance.

Nope.

The iGPU sits within the I/O chiplet of the CPU, and not within the core chiplets that have the v-cache on them. So it doesn't use / take away any of the cores processing power.

Thanks Donnie ... I can now go on to tweaking my ram without that concern

No, not really. However if you are not using it I'd recommend disabling it in the BIOS because why have it enabled if you don't plan on using it.

If into overclocking and tuning your system, one benefit to having the iGPU disabled is that it may allow you more headroom for lowering the CPU VDDIO voltage.

With the iGPU enabled and being used, lowering the VDDIO voltage and overclocking the iGPU can cause instability.

I wonder how to do that on my motherboard? I dont plan to overclock at all, just disable onboard sound that I have done now and progress to getting my ram up to spec ... AMD dont call it XMP, but I think I know what to do there :)

If it really means no biggie I'm happy to keep on CPU graphics and just not use it ... I notice my Windows 11 Device Manager has an unknown device, presumably thats it ... but it still works at default in this Motherbards BIOS.

This really threw me on first build as board has no re-assuring PC speaker bleep I'm used to! and I as just greeted with a silent black screen ... uh oh :)

Thanks guys, appreciate your advice here.

You can use the search in the BIOS (top-middle of screen, sort of), type graphics and it should find the integrated graphic option, then disable. That how I do it as cannot find where it is.

Gonna go try that right now ... such an obvious thing, wow ... ram speed is fine now, almost there ... will report back.

And it worked Fred, thanks a lot, Modern Bioses are great allowing to search too, it found the option and disabled it and it works, Thanks.

Thank You.
