Hi there, Just purchased a Asus DC2 TOP 7970 and the voltage appears to be locked at 1.178 :( There was a review posted in september showing the voltage going to 1.4v in GPU tweak, I've just tried quite a lot of different versions of GPU-Tweak, none will go above 1.178.

Could you tell me which cards are not voltage locked? Had stability issue's with the lightning BE which is unlocked. Any other cards?

Cheers.

Edit: nvm, decided to return the card, Purchased a Sapphire Vapor X 7970 which does have voltage control.

The ASUS CD2 Top does have voltage control with a simple Bios flash available from Tech Power Ups data base and then using GPU tweak. You can then get up to 1.4v easy enough.

I have 5x MSI 7970 Lightening they all work great and are stable. I beleive the top Voltage on these on AB is 1.35v. I have my own version called ABX which gives me upto 1.9v on the core but is only available to pro clockers with sub zero cooling.

I did some testing last week of the Sapphire card myself the ghz edition to be precise. I found it to be a great card. Did you find it responded well to Voltage on Air???? Mine did not gain too much by adding volts.

Oh right, if I flash the bios and it goes wrong will I still be able to RMA the card? is it worth doing it or just sending it back? I have ordered the sapphire but it hasn't been dispatched.

Do you have a link to the bios i need?

You cant RMA a card which has been bricked by a bad Bios flash mate. I don't have that link no. But its easy enough to find on the Data Base.

What are the chances of it going bad mate? I really like the cooler on this, its silent under load, 25% fan 62c gpu temp.

There are so many bios's on there, which is the right one? or what should I be looking for?

Thanks.

Looking at GPU-Z this is the BIOS i have atm:

I flash em all the time. Flashed loads of 7970 all fine. Use ATI flash from Dos. I used the ASUS OC test bios when I flashed but I am not sure which that one is in the list to be honest and I cant check my downloads from here.

flashing the card is easy.
even if for some reason it did go wrong you can flash the card again using onboard vga or another graphics card in another slot.

My Sapphire card has been dispatched, I'll just send this Asus one back, as much as i don't want to. Its a real shame Asus have done this.

Oh dear sorry i didnt see this thread.

the ASUS DirectCuII 7970 is not actually Voltage locked, Its simply not reconised by most software.

After testing EVERY GPU-Tweak i found that using 2.2.1.4 Will allow the voltage to be changed up to 1.4v

That's how i can get an overclock of 1260/1830 on mine.

Flashing the Bios that's on that website like 8pack said will simply ruin that chance, Only the First set of batches of the DCII TOP editions will work with that unlocked bios.

You should have kept it as they are amazing cards

Hi, I did try 2.2.1.4 and it didn't work, I still have the card but I've already let ocuk know that i'm DSR'ing it for the reasons above.

The Sapphire ghz will be here tomorrow.

The bios flash did work with all the versions I tested.

Which exact BIOS and which batch of cards?

Many people tell me the same as you... Yet when asked they cannot provide.

Its very annoying... I hope that being you, there would be some records taken?

Anything will be good as I wish to one day use MSI AB on my 7979 alone

I have to be careful about sharing Bios which effectively invalidate warranty. Prior to me working at OCUK I had no issue with sharing Bios etc at all unless I had signed NDA on a particular Bios. Now its a lot different. Check out Kingpin Cooling forum for the link!!!
