I've currently got a 7850 Overclocked, been a great card but with next-gen coming up I think I might need an upgrade, and I've got someone lined up to sell my 7850 to.

Anyway, at this moment it time looking at different websites, they can both be had for around £300.

But I don't know which to go for. As I said above, I've over clocked cards before and I've heard the 7970 is a great clocker too, so is it worth getting that and overclocking it? Or should I take the Nvidia route this time round?

Sorry if you get tons of these threads, but I need some advice, thanks! :)

7970 would be my choice unless you wanted Nvidia for a specific reason. The 7970 is faster.

The 7970 is faster and you can have fun overclocking with any of the unlocked cards. You are used to AMD drivers, so I will say go this route.

You can pick up a 7950 and these perform about 5%-10% of a 7970 and if you are purely a gamer (not a bench maniac), this would be a wiser choice and save you a few quid.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games £239.99
Total : £251.39 (includes shipping : £9.50).

That is my recommendation.

Do i fall under the category of bench maniac? I'd rather be part time bencher. :D

Maybe sometimes. ;)

That Gigabyte card is a peach and at that price and performance so close to the 7970, it could be a wise choice if the OP isn't bothered about benching.

Just my thoughts anyways :)

i just picked up a HIS HD 7970 IceQ X² for 259.99 here on the bgrade section was a bargain boxed as new :)

So maybe worth waiting till another comes on there again.

It came yesterday and its great came from a 580gtx and its so much faster plus i flashed it to the ghz version and works great :)

gratz on nice card - there is some B grade, but it cost more than normal (aka totally new) version.. :(
sure would like 7970

ok,thanks for advise

This is how i got mine there was one i think the gigabyte one which i bought originally for 259 but when paid for they phoned me and said it was out of stock and offered me the 340 his x2 for the same 259 which is great for me tbh :)

A 7970 will be faster than a 670, although I would recommend lookign at 7950's- they are only about 5% slower clock for clock (a few FPS here and there), yet cost around 30% less- therefore offering much better performance for the price. A 600W decent PSU could power either single GPU card.

That could be an option, you can get 7950's for £220, whereas the 7970's are £300! This will probably be my last upgrade for a while, so do you think this card will last?

A 7950 will last as long as a 7970 when both are overclocked especially, if a 7950 can't play it, neither will a 7970.

Same goes for the 670/680.

:)

^This, the difference in performance is small enough that you won't really ever be in a situation where a 7970 is sufficient to play a game, yet a 7950 isn't. When a 7950 isn't good enough, neither will a 7970.
