AMD 8 core RYZEN price

People just expect/believe it will*be cheaper in order to get back into the high end.*I am not sure that the high end PC space is even where AMD can get back into.

Even the 6800 and*6850 (six cores) are expensive, couple it to a decent mobo and RAM and its a*grand basically.*So for me the PC is more expensive than ever as people looking for the best have to pay more for it. If you want a top end gaming rig for example, 6 or 8C 6850/6900, 8 or 16 GB RAM, good mobo and graphics to match (single card even) will be 1600 quid before you even factor in the case,*m.2 SSD, PSU etc

So my take is that a 24" monitor based system doing 1920HD*4C, 8GB RAM,*ordinary SSD etc is affordable but moving up into the high end*of £2K systems for*2K and 4K systems is a fortune. Therefore AMD could think system as they have graphics*as*well.

i3/i5/i7 in the 2c or 4c area*is the main battle ground for PC business. 8C/16T offerings are for specialist professions that warrant the*additional performance surely. The gamer would probably like 8C/16T for future proofing purposes but 6C/12T is the more affordable and likely place to buy into.

So performance wise AMD look ok, its just a matter of their pricing now

I have an original i7 with 6 GB RAM. OK its overclocked to 3.5 GHz from 2.7 but even so it plays all games such as Bf4 and CM Rally easily maxed out at 2K resolutions so it all about the GPU really as I have a Zotac 980Ti which does the hard work.

Personally I would suggest that 4K gaming is a niche market at best. Making a 8C/16T CPU mainstream is a long way off. Making 4C/8T mainstream is probably a long way off. A billion PCs arnt able to play games apart from bejeweled type things. I think 1080p is struggling to me the new normal even now. Its all a niche market.

yes 4C is mainstream in respect to high end gaming which makes up a small amount of total PC and laptop sales. As for the irrelevance, it may be to you but Nvidia were speaking about some streaming (CITRIX) type gaming tech too allow a lot more PCs to game (if it works of course) so its not as irrelevant as you might suggest.

Gaming is about graphics cards and monitors mostly. I have an original i7 which I could not give away now and it is fine with Bf4, Dirt Rally etc.

Just thinking more about what AMD expect to sell, after all the 4C/6C/8C space is already full but the 6C/8C space is expensive, so AMD could hit home if Ryzen is priced right. 4C for 200, 6C for 300 and 8C for 4-500. The only trouble then is it Intel has the power to reduce prices accordingly, take the hit and remove the threat.

what does AMD and the rest of us really expect of Ryzen?
