What do I think?

That being a PC owner these days is no fun. All our games are console ports, and it seems likely that now our hardware is going to stagnate in favour of:

1. consoles
2. tablets
3. phones

All of which will continue to use low-power, low-grunt chips. AMD etc will start not giving a damn about PC hardware, some time in the not-to-distant future.

There will be a big push around the next console release, and then we'll probably have a much, much longer hardware life cycle on PCs too, while all the R&D goes on low-power tech.

foxeye i agree and to add to that they say desktop is a dying thing. amd can't compete with intel, both are attempting to integrate graphics into cpus and intel are trying to integrate cpus onto motherboards, pc sales are slumping, and windows 8 isn't helping. it's all sort of pointing to a decline at the very least. on the other hand steam and nvidia are attempting to turn pcs into consoles with things i think should have come out yonks ago. we might even see a resurgence if we're lucky. if only for example microsoft had just produced some console-doppleganger pcs with controllers instead of making the xbox :p
