Hi,

Ive been trying to trouble shoot an issue ive been having for a few weeks now. Basically, I have been playing and livestreaming a variety of games, namely BF3 and BF4 Beta which i know are super heavy on the CPU but it has never been a problem when using OBS (streaming software) Recently i have been getting crazy CPU spikes to 100% and OBS is causing it judging by task manager>Resource manager. Temps looks relatively fine according to HWmonitor, max is 45 degrees.

Specs: AMD 8350@4ghz, Cooled by a Corsair h50, Asrock 970 extreme4 with Latest Bios. 7970 Matrix platinum, Corsair RM 750 PSU, 8gb Corsair Ram. All in a Fractal Design r4 with plenty of Airflow.

My theory is maybe the motherboard is throttling somehow? I've tried turning off Cool and quiet and the power management stuff in the BIOS, CPU spikes still happens. Could it be the VRM overheating?

hope you can help me!

Cheers

IIRC that board is 4+1 VRMs. In which case it will barely hold 4ghz on an 8 core.

Try using hwmon to monitor board temps, and use something to monitor the core speed.

Using HWmonitor

Im getting around 43 degrees Max on Package.

On Auxtin my max is 128 degrees (261 Fahrenheit)is that bad?

Wondering if the VRM is getting too hot causing throttling, or the northbridge is too hot? to touch, ite very hot. i could cook an egg on it!

Any ideas?

It's probably the VRMs dude. Those boards can barely hold a FX 83x0 at stock without throttling. It took me ages to get 4.2ghz out of mine.

It's better replaced if you want to overclock. If not? then put a fan over the power stages to at least try and cool them down a bit.
