Hi guys,

Im ready to pull the trigger on the 8350 but wondering if i need to upgrade my CPU cooling, I currently have the Corsair H50 unit and was wondering if this is fine for the job or if anyone has experience with the stock fan.

The stock fan will be noisy on full chat, I would use it for the minimum amount of time personally. Mine has never been used. The corsair H50 may be good if the case is also well ventilated. I use a Phanteks 14 air cooler which has been very good at keeping things cool at 4.6GHz. It is a bit marginal in prime at 4.6 but for general usage fine.

What motherboard do you have?
 
LN2 an Aim for 8ghz!!!

No seriously the closed loop water coolers are great for getting decent temps and clocks with these CPU.
 
I've just given in to the upgrade urge and bought an 8350 and a Sabertooth 990fx to play with - I'm using the K2 Mount Doom with mine, and the temps are pretty good so far - didn't have any trouble fitting it, though the instructions are written in micro-print and I had to use a magnifying glass to read them.
 
I use the kraken x60 for it and im clocked at 4.8ghz, ive got 5ghz stable too but i dont need that much extra volt just for 200+mhz stable.
 
OK... so, it arrived today, the h50 is on , temps are fine. But... im having problems. Since booting i get Steam give me errors, No games wanna play and ive had a couple of Black screens/restarts. I wondered if i would need to update the bios.

Im running it on an ASROCK 970 Extreme 4 with 8GB XMS3 1333 Ram.

Any ideas? :(
 
Does it only crash/restart under load, is it ok web browsing? (like games, prime95 etc)

If it's just steam and it's games playing up and nothing else might be worth just reinstalling that :)
 
Ok, so ive done the latest Bios update, seems to be fine in regards to web browsing, ive reinstalled steam which causing issues before, re-installed Arma, plays ok *for now*

What you boys use for CPU temps?

I'll report back once ive tested games for a longer period
 
CPUID HWMoniter and Core Temp I use and a lot of people seem to use it too.
BTW I have stock cooler and idle is 20c and hard use is around 60c. I too am looking for a decent cooler for clocking.
