Amd 940 in my board?

It maybe cheaper to get one of the newer AM3 CPUs as they will work fine in your motherboard too.

Flashing a BIOS is not a problem usually. Using windows utilities can be risky though when compared to using a floppy disc or a USB flash drive.

Anyway your motherboard has some protection against a bad BIOS flash as it has a Virtual Dual BIOS according to the webpage of the motherboard.
