Hey guys, ignore my signature my CPU isn't at 3.6Ghz any more because it caused me Artefacts on the games I play so I decided to go back to stock 3.2Ghz which runs fine now without any Artefacts but I'm wanting to push my CPU to 4Ghz and I was wondering will I get any sort of benefit from doing this because 800Mhz x 4 is 3200Mhz which is basically a whole other core. I heard WOW is really CPU dependant so I assume I will see some benefit from doing this overclock and if you guys think it's worth it please can somebody lead me through the overclocking process please? :D

I wasn’t aware that cpu's caused artefacts. Is your 955BE C3 stepping or C2, It makes a big difference? C2 will go to about 3.8. C3 can go 4.2+

Edit: use cpu-z to have a look

slade that's weird cos mine is C3 and i cant get mine past 3.8ghz the mutliplier will not go past X19 when i try to set it to x20 or above it drops down to x5 so i have to stick with X19 which is 3.8ghz weird init lol

i havd an unlocked c2 that did 4hgz on stock voltage.

pushing you cpu to 4ghz is very good if you use programs that will use the extra speed. so for video converting it can cut your times in halt because they will utalize the extra power

This is bizarre as you should easily be able to reach 3.8 without touching the voltage. Check your temps, if they're fine maybe you've got some much on the CPU pins?

This is my test on CineBench on both stock and 4.2Ghz:

Make sure you have stuff like Cool n Quiet disabled.

are you droping your ram and northbridge rations down? your problem may be your pushing them too hard.

Well the overclock that came with computer from overclockers made the CPU run at 3.6 and ram at 1.1, I hoping for 4GHZ on my CPU as what buchtis has posted it's quite a big difference ;D

if OcUK was happy to sell the bundle @ 3.6Ghz then they mush be confident that ever chip will hit that speed and i would say there is some head room in the for more.

go into bios and drop the ram and northbridge rations down, put voltage to auto and pump the FSB

what motherboard do you have.

Wait..... is your CPU a black edition most amd cpu's are have you tryed just putting the cpu multiplier up

NB? Pleasr explain, and please explain thoroughly how I overclock the CPU and notching down the ratio on the RAM to allow the overclock and yes it's a AMD 955 BE 125W max

No, its much better if you OC from the bios. That C3 955BE 'should' 4Gb easy.

Look in the mobo bios and try:

FSB (Front side bus) 200Mhz (which it should be already)
Mulityplier (should be x16 be default) try x18 with 1.40volts on the cpu
Leave ram at 800mhz (1600)
(Ram to NB Freq) 800 x 3 = 2400mhz but give it some head room and try 2600.
NB Freq somewhere 2400 to 2800mhz

If its not steady try upping the cpu volts a bit 1.42, 1.44, 1.46 and so on. Dont go above 1.55v or you could damage the cpu.

Mine is this to give you some idea,
AMD 955BE @ 4209Mhz (200 x 21 @ 1.475volts) NB Freq 2809Mhz on a CrosshairV mobo with 'Cool in Quiet' enabled :p

Remember to always keep an eye on your cpu temps. Keep them under 65 if you can. Disable 'cool in quiet' to get a steady overclock for now. And, that all cpu's are different most C3's should do 4GB but some just wont.

Good luck!

(ps read that overclocking guide ;) )
(pss if ive missed anything someone correct me please)

I managed 3.9GHz on mine when i had it, but it wasn't stable, but 3.7GHz was fine.
