Am building a pc for my brother and he has bought the 9590 cpu. My problem is what cooler do i put on it?

The case he is wanting me to put it in is a Cooler master Haf XB lan box case.

What would you reccommend? Am looking at the Corsair H80 or H100 but not sure if they will be powerfull enough.

Getting motherboard later this week as he can't decide which one he wants!

If he can (or is willing) he should consider DSRing the 9590 and overclocking a cheaper one, like the 9370.

An H100/100i will be fine. You can use a high end air cooler too, like the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 2.

He'll need a pretty good board for it. The Asus Crosshair Formula Z, Sabertooth, or Gigabyte UD5/UD7 will be fine.

I don't want to start Red/Blue debate but im pretty sure my reasoning is justified..

It will be cheaper returning the chip and getting an intel 4770k build.

The motherboard needed for the 9590/9370 will be expensive as they need really good quality components (all over the board) to withstand the 'silly' overclock on those chips..

The cooler also will have to be atleast £60+

This is not a problem intel have.

Thanks

He won't return the cpu as "it's the fastest" So will get the H100 and hope he likes it.

He's paying for the components so am not too worried about cost :)

Ok, if he wants it that's up to him :)

Be sure to get a good board though - one of the ones I listed above will be ok.

It's too expensive - since the 8350 can normally overclock to the same speed and is less than half the price. For things that use 8 cores equally (like rendering and encoding) it makes the 8320/50 very good value.

Fastest AMD, but can only beat SB/IB-E in code targeted directly at the processor's instruction set.

If you're someone who uses almost entirely heavily threaded software, the 9370's a pretty good buy - guaranteed 4.7GHz for £180.

Fail thread is full of fail. Return the CPU and remind your brother that it is always a good idea to read reviews of PC components before buying them.
