AMD 965 C3 CPU idling at 55c

i'd try the heatsink first before you go changing the case, i just built my backup rig in a elite 330 and its a phenom x2 550 unlocked to a quad, with a radeon 4770 and it sits about 27oC under the zalman 8700-led i have on it.
i think the stock cooler is your problem.

Here is my idle temps with my new heatsink and fan...

It isn't dropping the volts down. Can you open task manager and check nothing is using the cpu? Maybe Windows isn't idle.

Mmmmm, vcore heading south and temps have just dropped a few degrees, if this solves the problem may drive round your house and kiss you!

Update: Vcore at 1.03 and temps idling at 38c. I assume on the balance setting this will ramp up when I play a game? And if so could go for power saving setting in that case and it'll keep vcore/temp lower when just surfing?

Fair play I break new ground everyday now that I've started building pc's again after 7 yr hiatus! Still going to get the antec 300 though as I have the itch to fiddle!

on the stock cooler that may be about right, i'd change the heatsink before changing the case though.

Just thought I'd feed back my success. Moved my system into an Antec 300 and fitted a Baram heatsink and my cpu now idles at 28c. And at full tilt encoding video and playing games hits 55 as opposed to the late 60's.

Cheers for everyones help!
