2 months ago i had ago and only bothered it to push it to 3.5:p
So today ive just had ago at getting it to 3.7.

I set the muliplier to 18.50 is that too high, and i cause its a BE its got an unlocked Multiplier so i dont need to touch theFSB do i?

I haven't. I have mine at x19 with a voltage of 1.425 and its nice and stable at 3.8ghz with everything else untouched on auto.
. cnq still works aswell. ALthough if you push it higher I believe cnq no longer works.

All you need is to change the multi with a slight voltage bump and should be fine.

What cooler have you got? I would suggest a good cooler though if you are still using stock.

For info I'm using a Thermolab Baram heatsink and my temps are 27 idle and 49 max at full load with the overclock.

Bear in mind though being winter my central heating is on a lot too.

depends on version you have aswell. newer c3 revision seems to go higher but some older version still do well mine goes upto 4.1 :D

i keep mine at 3.7 @ 1.4v not crashed once.

about 3.8 a lot hit a wall and you have to crank the volts up. this is where you decide are you going for it or you happy with 100mhz less.

most over 3.8 seem to need at least 1.5v for general daily use

i wouldnt go over that myself even though 1.55v is supposed to be safe.

test with intel burn test i do ten runs and if it passes you should be fine .

Dude how do you achieve this with a lower multiplier? Do you adjust other settings or is it your particular chip?

C3 revision chip I think.

You don't have to play with the FSB if you don't want to. You may want to increase your CPU-NB a little to increase performance.

There is a great AMD overclocking guide available which is imo really well written and explains a lot.

This can only be increased in your BIOS. The best way of increasing this is to slow down your ram and loosen the timings and then increase your HT ref clk. (what you reffered to as FSB) in windows and test for stability. At 220 HT ref clk your CPUNB (with a stock multi of x10) will be at 2200. You can then raise the multi in your bios to 11. Mine flakes out at about 2300 so I just leave it at 2200 so I don't have to use a voltage boost.

People report the HTlink does not really improve performance so you should leave it at 2000. The AMD OC guide supports this.

I have the C3 aswell. I notice though you have a higher bus speed and ht link than I do though.

jims thanks for the knowledge, just beat me to the post

Depends which cooler you use m8?

I have tested overclocked up to 3.9 Ghz, 1.475 Volt, No crash at all. I used H50 cooler
Temp on gaming 42 to 45 degree, Idling from 30 to 33 degree.

I get crashes on 4 Ghz. H50 no good enough :P

My cooler is the fenrir one but im not confident enough to touch voltages. Plus 3.7 is plenty, hell even stock 3.4 is still pretty damn good:)

My 3.825ghz is on stock voltages. Ran Prime for 12 hours.

Stock volts!? Congrats!

You guys are getting me all excited for when I put meh new comp together (bout week after Christmas) with coincidently a 965BE. I also ordered (and recieved) AC Freezer 13, due to my cases limitations and budget :)

Hoping to get a good OC from it :D

I have overclocked and played games for long time without shutting my pc down for few days. Anyway for me overclock is pointless. I just wanted to know how far I can get in my machine. Reached 3.9 Ghz.

I am happy with 3.4 Ghz. All I need is SSD, my baby is ready is no problem for another year. I won't upgrade my CPU to X6 because there is no need. X4 is running fine. It meets my needs. Haven't had any trouble with any games or software.

Plus I don't want to kill my cpu life by doing OC for longer period :).

sorry to kind of highjack the thread, but I'm doing some research into my first build, decided to go amd for the bang for buck.

anywhooo, if I was to overclock, is it worth paying the extra £20 for the 965BE, or would I be able to get just as good an overclock with the cheaper 955BE? Probably going to run it with a corsair H50 (gonna be a small case, cant aircool) so I should be able to get it up to the kinds of speeds you guys have with the 965 or thereabouts, right?

220 FSB and multi @ 17.5 with volts left to auto on the Crosshair III results in a stable 3.9Ghz. Initially ran Prime95 for 4 hours the BF2 for a whole bunch of evenings. Idle 30 Deg.C and max hit 51 Deg.C :) Auto cal volts disabled.

Have not checked this in some time.

@DaN; Get the 955 and OC it. As long as you are getting the C3 I don't think it will make any difference. There is a chance your CPU may be a little less power efficient but it should overclock to the same speed.
