Hi,

I currently have a home server which is using a AMD Phenom II X4 840 Socket AM3 938(45nm) CPU and I would like to upgrade my current motherboard as it only supports up to 8GB of RAM and has 4 SATA ports of 3GB.

I would like to upgrade to a new motherboard which supports more than 8GB of RAM and has SATA 2 6GB ports but I would like to keep the CPU.

So I am not sure if I can use, for example the following motherboard ASRock 970M Pro3 with my current CPU or if anyone can recommended a motherboards Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Socket AM3+ motherboards are backwards compatible with socket AM3 processors, so you can swap to a newer board and keep using the older processor (the CPU compatibility list does show that the processor is compatible).
