I might be wrong, but I don't think the type of 3D in TV's is the same what monitors use?
When you load up tomb raider does it show the 3D option?

A 3D monitor is 120hz real 120hz, and a TV is 60hz with fake 120hz and for 3D you need two 60hz pictures.

if a game supports 3d natively then the drivers are installed with the game, and all you have to do to enable it is to turn the setting on in the game menu. in the case of tomb raider it uses hd3d natively, so if you want the best experience you want to use a displayport cable, as amd hd3d works at 24hz over hdmi or 60hz over displayport. alternatively you can play at 24hz (effectively your tv is outputting 48fps) over hdmi.

120hz monitors are said to be better for 3d gaming because the flickering in glasses is less visible at 60hz per eye than 24hz, but it's still better to use the 24hz option for movies if you don't want pull-down.

poorly

you'll need a copy of TriDef to get it to work at all, but looking at the TV specs it only has HDMI so you'll be limited to 24 or 30fps which will look rubbish

nope, the game works in 3d out of the box for me as it should; no need for third party software. you do have to manually set the refresh rate of your monitor to a 3d compatible refresh rate though, so in the case of the hdmi connection to my monitor, the 3d option didn't work until i'd set my monitor to 24hz.

to be fair amd titles do need tridef but some games just come with a native 3d driver/solution. the reason i think tomb raider uses a native amd hd3d driver is because that's what i've read online. also i had some interesting differences in vram use between 3d over dvi and over hdmi, but i'm not sure if the results were accurate since the tests weren't thorough, and i don't see why different 3d methods would use different amounts of vram... i'll have to check this again when i reinstall the game later.

Did it look rubbish at that rate?

It'd probably feel rubbish rather than look.

indeed.

I've read that 120hz may be possible at 720p via HDMI. Anyone tried this?

in the sense that you can display 3d content at 60fps per eye, then yes; you can make your display effectively output 120 frames per second. there isn't anything in the hdmi 1.4a spec that allows you to actually physically see 120fps though, and since your gpu is 1.4a you won't be able to select or see any 120fps content over hdmi. i suspect all next-gen gpus will adhere to hdmi 1.4b which allows 120hz even over 1080p but until then you're out of luck.
