AMD and Intel heatspreader shape measurements.

IgorsLAB has now done very accurate and complete measurements of heatspreader shape in big pile of CPUs from last 20 years.

Result:
Except for Core2 consumer/desktop platform Intels all have dent in them.
While nearly all AMDs are opposite with at least slight convex shape in center.

So when you combine widely distributed heat production of modern chiplet Ryzens to Intel optimized convex heatsink base, there's clear potential for "suboptimal" cooling performance.
Especially if both contact surfaces are more out of shape individuals.

So if wanting the best cooling performance with AMD, it's not out of place to check how straight cooler's base is/if it rocks on top of CPU before actually mounting it.
(and possibly grind heatsink's base to flat)

That's really interesting information. I wish there were more reviews showing how coolers perform on AMD chips. I understand the need to test on older intel systems to keep an apples to apples comparison but it's frustrating when trying to choose an AMD cooler.

It's annoying that coolers are being optimised for Intel at the expense of AMD but still being sold as suitable for both.

Be interesting if the EK-AMD cooler collab performed much better, or if they just copy and pasted their previous designs.
