AMD and Intel loserz?? lolz

With the last few posts about AMD or Intels latest offerings resulting in fan boy style mutterings, I feel its time to remind everyone a simple little fact that most overlook:

FACT - Intel currently have the fastest desktop CPU's clock for clock.
FACT - AMD struggle to cope with demand for their parts ATM

Whats does it mean ? - not a great deal.......

Dothan was slightly faster then the A64 clock for clock too, but not many ppl could jump onto that platform as easy, so we did'nt see so many totaly nonse posts about them(lucky us).

AMD & Intel (or should it be Intel & AMD)
They both have roadmaps that can and do change.
Intels latest offering will force AMD to speed up their roadmap and possibly change/tweak design or even dump some (leapfrog to others)
AMD never considered the p4 a true challenger so has hardly been rushing to push their K8.
So hold on before you say AMD or Intel are the ' winners'.
The only 'winners' at the moment are US*, cheaper prices for faster (IPC) CPU's and both companies considering they MUST compete for our custom.

I have to say though that the best thing for AMD has been the chipset support they have gained - Intel has always held the crown there, but chipset offereing have leveled out now (my opinion)
The winner here is US* yet again, more choice and fast stable platforms(sic)
(*US - as in hardware enthusiasts)

Always room for discussion, and yeah O.K some ppl have valid points for their choice in platform (e.g X2 AM2 new build over a Conroe atm).
This does'nt mean XIntel is better then yAMD or vice versa - its what works for you at any given time.

Lets face it, if Intel and AMD ever did a market share deal (i.e 60/40) they could virtualy slow down the roadmaps to snails pace, increase profit margins and still generate the same revenue.

Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with saying Intel/AMD is the fastest currently, its the attitude of some that a)will not admit it b)wave the flag of the competition without knowing whats coming out, going on or otherwise having any clue what so ever.

Fanboys belong at a Game.
I don't consider buying goods a game and I hope no one else does !

Quad cores are another moot point,

technology is already ahead of desktop apps (mostly) with Dual cores.

exactly, its what cpu is best for YOU, not a cpu which other people think is better at everything in any situation just because it happens to be the fastest at the minute. the one thing i hate is going into some innocent persons thread when they ask for advice from both sides of the board then the thread gets bombarded with a ridiculous and pointless argument between "fanboys" and nobody gets anywhere and the author of the thread doesnt have a clue, i think there should be deleted posts that go off the subject and are completely biased. this way people will actually be helped in thier quest for knowledge and therefor will enjoy their experience on these forums and get the answers that they came for.

"Fanboyism" is a too-often used cliché often used to describe someone giving their favourable opinions of a product, when it should be used only to describe someone that blindly follows one particular brand irrespective of the pros and cons of staying with it or going elsewhere.

Most intelligent and educated people refer to this as brand loyalty, a well-known term in economics, rather than "fanboyism" - a stupid and juvenile term. Human psychology dictates that people will often return to a brand with which they have had a good experience, and this perceived safety net is a perfectly valid and fair point of view.

Both AMD and Intel have pros and cons for DIFFERENT people, so give it a rest with the fanboyism accusations and understand that many people are simply conveying their argument based on what they believe to be the pros and cons of each product, as well as feeling safe choosing a product with which they have had a previous good experience.

To conclude - fanboyism is purged around here as though it were an evil trait. It's called brand loyalty, and is perfectly natural in the consumer world.

I am fully aware of brand loyality, but its the sheer pig headed attitutude of some - i.e the fanboyz that cause issue. SO I have dissagreement with your comment

It may be true for you and many, but for some its not.

I am sorry to be so blunt here (no troll), but that is utter rubbish, you can't make such a sweeping comment with regards to (passionate) debate, nor has it any bearing upon ones choice of brand to be loyal too.

Absolutely.
I'm sure you hit the nail on the head, with what Taz was getting at - its faster as such, but does'nt 'whoop its ass' overall (price point) as you rightly pointed out.

Also you have to put in mind of selling your old rig.

I can sell my CPU, Mobo, Graphics and RAM (well acctually I already have) for £280. My conroe upgrade (Bought cpu, mobo, ram, vga cooler, cpu cooler) cost me £570.

£570 - £280 = £290.

My system does do everything I want yes, but if I wait until say, January to upgrade I can only sell my current PC for £200 maybe less. Prices arent going to go massively down in 5 months so imo that justifies my upgrade. Sub-£300 upgrade for me and more than twice the performance = Good upgrade.

That sort of hold true, but you forget the fact that Conroe prices will also fall and chipset/boards mature by then.
