I'm thinking of building a small home network server for backups, firewall and DHCP and was considering getting an AMD APU as they are nice and cheap and have integrated graphics. I'm just slightly concerned about the drivers for them.

Does anyone know if they work well with open source drivers or do you need to use AMD drivers? Has anyone had any problems with one running on Linux? Obviously as it is a server I won't be needing graphics except for the initial system install but I'd like to know they work if required in the future.

Any help is appreciated :).

Thanks for the info. Looks like an APU would be a good bet. You can't really complain about getting a half decent server for £400 (most of which is caused by the hard drives).

(i wouldnt advise having backups on a firewall btw)

I'm not too concerned with this. I'll be encrypting the backups anyway and they are not absolutely mission critical anyway. Mainly just photos.
