I saw that OCuk have these cpus in stock now and at a good price.but i wanted to know the package details and what the box contains. i know that OEM means only the CPU but it says underneath that it comes with a heatsink and basicly the same stuff as the original 3700 pack.
is that true or am i missing something?

Just Found This :

OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer

OEM Hardware
This is the term given to a manufacturer that buys, for instance, video graphics chips and implements them in their own design.

OEM Software
When in the context of software it means that the software is sold only with a certain piece of hardware and/or the software manufacturer provides no technical support.

You will also find that OEM software usually doesn't come with a manual (or a box), if it's software you are experienced in using then having no manual won't be a problem, although most OEM software does still come with the built-in help system.

The price difference between OEM software and full retail software can be huge, so if having no box, no manual and no technical support is not a problem then it can be a bargain.

note: some OEM software is a cutdown version of its retail counterpart, always make sure the software has the features you need.

Looks like the description is incorrect, that's all.

OEM cpu's usually come brown boxed, just the chip without HSF. IIRC you get 1 year warranty instead of 3 aswell.

The desciption is a copy/paste of the Retail CPU, I sent a webnote to OcUK where I mentioned this and gt a reply that text is often copied but obviously they haven't changed it.

AFAIK OEM means no cooler, no box and 1 year gurantee instead of 3 years (not too sure about the guarantee though)

oh well its a bargain for me as i just ordered the MSI R480 Crossfire Motherboard with the AMD Athlon 3700+ OEM at a very good price and they can send em over to Cyprus where i live :p i couldnt add the regular 3700+ coz it was too heavy :( but i dont really mind if i get the CPU without a cooler or manuals coz i already got my bros X2 3800 heatsink and fan coz he got the thermaltake beatle on :) so why pay the extra money just to get the manual and heatsink with fan when i already got em :D and who knows i might put the Zalman Aero Flower in the future. i cant wait till my order arrives in 5 days from today :D

legally if they advertise it as coming with a cooler then they have to provide a cooler otherwise it is false advertising and thus you are buying it under false pretences. So go for the oem and then tell ocuk if they dont provide you with your cooler as described you will take legal action.

Seriously, you're not going to get many happy customers, if the purchase was based on the product description BUT only to find out parts are missing... must avoid those cut and paste jobs. ;)

im not complaining about it ;) i mean who can complain when OCuk have some many good offers like the X1800XT :) i saved £50 when it was on special offer :) they might forgot to edit the description but we all know what OEM stands for dont we :p

have to say thats going far just because you dont get a cooler and warranty docs with the oem as described.

yea well you never actually take legal action but the threat should make them give you what is advertised. Some mug that doesnt know anything about computers might buy it and then have no heatsink and fan and that is what it is described as having. This would mean the person would have to order another one and pay more delivery and therefore creating a load of extra hassle that wouldnt have been a problem if the description was correct.

I know how annoying wrong descriptions are, when i ordered my PSU it was supposed to have 28 Amps on the 12 Volt rail...

But has 22 Written on the side

Still has the wrong description

^^ just what im talking about, distress from a customer caused by something that is thought to be minor by ocuk but has obviously meant the customer has less trust in the businesses descriptions than previously.

I bought one of these cpus, S/D 3700, oem yesterday and I got a little box with a cpu in it, thats all. Not complaining though, I wanted to fit a freezer 64 pro annway. Defaults to 1.35V core so overclocking could interesting.

dosent overclock that great, although it might be me, so im interested in your results, best ive got on mine so far is 2.65 @ 1.45v, should have paid the extra for the retail i think to get the good stepping.

this is the oem i got from ocuk yesterday, is anyone able to work out if its a decent chip, and what the figures mean to help me overclock a bit more?

running on a gruper Ati board.

you need to knock down the htt multi to 4 or 3 to clock higher because you need to keep the htt bus speed or htl speed as written in your pic below 1000 idealy.

Is the E4 stepping better than the E6 and would the retail be any different?

Also, why does it say '2' on your stepping specs above?
