Looking to update my 3000+ Venice, should I go for single or dual core? Will be mostly for gaming with the odd bit of video encoding thrown in too, and a little bit of CAD work. Looking to spend no more than £100, as I've just bought a new mobo and graphics card! :D

Looks like the 3700 for gaming as you should get 2.7 Gig out of it. The X2 3800 may dissapoint unless you are doing a lot of multi-tasking. I just leave my rig transcoding when I'm not there to play with it! ;)

Thanks for the replies. I intend to overclock whichever one I get a little, 2.5 on the 3700 would be nice, possibly 2.3-2.4 on the 3800? Not really wanting a stupid overclock, just enough to make a little difference! :p

I got my 3800x2 and had it at 2.8GHz on 1.4v. Has a Toledo core (from the 4400 and 4800) so you never know, you could get lucky. :)

I can get an OEM 3700+ brand new for £60 delivered, or an OEM X2 3800+ for £105 delivered, is the X2 worth the extra £45? I'll probably be doing a full PC upgrade in 18 months time, and really just want something to see me through 'til then, am I better off going for the cheaper option, or will the X2 be much more beneficial?

Went from a 3700 @ 2.6 to a X2 3800 @ 2550. In general windows use the 3800 wins hands down, in gaming, I cant really notice a difference to be honest, glad I made the swap though, video encoding is so fast compared to the 3700
