Hi, i recently sold my old AMD2600 xp processor on an well know aution site.

it was fully working the last time i used it about 2 years ago, but the chap has come back to me with the following

--------------
Hi,
The cpu arrived this morning ubut nfortunately although it starts Windows up it fails both the SiSoft Sandra and Prime95 Arithmetic Benchmark Tests. It doesnt just fail them but causes the whole computer to go dead. My current CPU passes these tests OK.
As this CPU is obviously not fully working I would like your permission to return it for a refund.

does anyone know where i stand, could he be wrong, as just because it fails prime, surely it means its more his system setup/config/bios rather than the cpu??

thanks

yeah, my thinking is that if it boots up windows, but them crashes on a system-straining program such as benchmarking software, then its a heat issue or timings issue on memory.

also if he wanted couldnt he just get paypal to force a refund? even if he has no real proof? its just a complete pain when something like this happens, i got like £32 for it, which i was amazed by.

thanks for your replys here guys, this is what he has replyied with:-

My current CPU is an Athlon 1700+ 266FSB, . My bios is the very latest availbable from the AsRock Website. My bios settings are already at the defaults. The temperature when it crashes is only around 50C and it should be quite happy up at least 60C. I set the jumpers to 333FSB as this CPU requires. My motherboard supports 266, 333 & 400. It seems quite happy to run memtest86 but prime95 causes almost immediate total crash of the PC. SiSoft Sandra fails in the same manner in less than 30 seconds. It seems to me the FPU is faulty but I welcome any other ideas you have.

The codes on the chip (which i thankfully recorded before) are:-
