Hi.
I currently have an AMD Athlon X2 AM2 4800+.

Would I receive any particular performance boost by upgrading to the 6000+?

Also, is it likely that in the future a better processor would be made available that were compatible with Asus M2N32-SLi (socket AM2) motherboard, and which would offer a significant performance boost.

Cheers,
Matt

Ok then, I would go to C2D but I'd have to change mobo, and at the time of buying my mobo it wasn't out (on retrospect I should porbably have waited). Do you know of any time scale as to when more powerful AM2 processors might be available.

Just overclock your 4800 to 3ghz.
If you really need the power I would consider changing to C2D

You won't get 3Ghz. 2.8 would be lucky on one of those.

I'd agree with the above, if you really really need a faster CPU, you'd get better results moving to an Intel and overclocking the knickers off it. Your AMD gear should fetch a tidy price if you sell it.

AMD's Quad Barcelona Cpu is due out in Q2 2007, if the CPU's out not so long after Intels Price Cuts (April 22nd), I think I'll sit this one out and wait for someone to review Barcelona to see if the performace is better than Intel's Q6600, and with any luck, AMD might be price matching Intel to compete.

£400 for a Barcelona sounds quite interesting to me
