My sister needs to upgrade her Amd duron 700mhz system with only 192MB of ram to something faster. The trick is she is only giving me £90 to do the job after looking around I've come across the AMD Athlon64 LE-1600 2.2Ghz for £30.49 inc vat, Gigabyte GA-M68SM-S2 w/GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a dvi + vga output for dual monitor support for 38.47 inc. VAT which leaves me with £21.04 for 1gig (2x512MB) of DDR2 800. The system already has a silent Zalman 400w power supply which I put a few months back. So what do you think of this setup esp the CPU? The machine will be used mainly for internet and homework for the children. Thx.

You probably can't get anything better for the money but just to give you an alternative:

**B Grade** Gigabyte GA G33M-S2 Micro ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 (MB-090-GI)
£39.99 (£46.99)

OcUK 1GB (2x512MB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
£13.99 (£16.44)

Intel Celeron 420 1.60GHz (LGA775) - Retail
£21.99 (£25.84)

Sub Total : £75.97
Shipping : £8.25
VAT : £14.74
Total : £98.96

Tbh with you I know bugger all about DDR2 in Athlon rigs but wouldn't it be worth trying to squeeze in 2GB of 667 RAM insetad of 800, considering it comes in just under £30 now?

Admittedly you might not notice the diff with XP and basic apps but 2GB is nice to have just incase (for the price) :)
