K quick question, I have currently a amd 64 3000+ in my msi neo platinum. (Skt 754) will the mobile version on this cpu work (AMD64-3700+ Skt 754) in my current board and will it provide a decent boost?

whats clocking like?? As I had a barton 2600+ mobile previously in a normal board and got 600mhz above stock. is this likely to be the same?

thanks

Mike

As long as you update the bios it should work. Mobile A64's don't clock like the XP-m's did. :(

:( should imagine they clock a little better than non mobiles tho??? Got a fairly cheap 3700+ mobile 1mb cache (£42) so seems like a worthwhile upgrade and it seems my bios/mboard is good to go

Is it a turion or the old clawhammer core? Either way you should get somewhere around 2.6 GHz and maybe a bit further if it's a turion.

What cooler will you be using with it as the mobile CPU likely won't come with a heatspreader?

its a clawhammer i think. I got a Ninja Scyte cooler, big huge ******* thing

should be ok?

I clocked my 3000+ from 2.0ghz to 2.3ghz so the 3700+ is 2.4ghz stock so I would be happy with 2.6ghz. Its crazy cause i got that out of me old barton 2600+ mobile lol

I had a 3400+ mobile only did 2.4GHz! :o

The mobile CPUs don't have heatspreaders but maybe 'cos the ninja has it's own heatsink retention thing it'll fit ok? Or are you getting a heatspreader with the 3700+?

I think 2.6 will be a bit hit or miss, I've had a couple of 754 DTR chips and have usually only managed ~2.4 out of them. You'll need to make sure the heatsink makes good contact because, as said above, the lack of heatspreader can cause issues.
