Hey, does anyone know whether it is safe to unlock the 2 cores and leave it with a stock cooler, what will the maximum temperature be?

Keep an eye on the temp, not sure what the stock cooler is up to. If it starts hitting the high 50's to low 60's then it's going too hot.

The stock coolers ok, but i've just replaced mine with a Freezer Pro rev 2 and it's way better.

But the problem is that going from a 550 to a B50 changes the TDP from 80w to ~125w an extra 50% is required from the cooler. (that won't translate into raw temps until the cooler is completely saturated but you can expect a fair rise in temps)

Mine rose 8 degrees running with a Fenrir cooler.

Like I said, just keep an eye on your temps and you'll be fine :)

I bought one 2 weeks ago from OcUK and it lists AM2 compatibility on the packaging. And I mounted it on an AM2/AM2+/AM3, so it works.
Solid cooler for the money.

Which of those coolers would be the quietest without heading in to water cooling? My PII 550 unlocked all 4 cores happily but I'm staying with 2 as I don't want to roast the chip just yet!
