According to the specifications, the 65nm chips will come out in June in three main flavors clocked at 2.1GHz, 2.2GHz, and 2.3GHz. Each flavor will available in multi-socket (82xx) and dual-socket (22xx) variants, and all models will have 512KB of L2 cache per core, 2MB of L3 cache per chip, DDR2-667 memory support, and a 95W thermal envelope.

This will be intresting, cant wait to see the bench results...

It will be intresting to see what they clock too, CO2 chips are not massive on the stock speeds but clock into the 3ghz with no problems so hope the AMD chips are the same...

The L3 cache may hamper their scaleability somewhat (so ive been told)

another theory, they might be so rediculously fast that there low clock speed is irrelevant when comparing to C2D, i know im gonna get flamed for saying that but just a thought :p

hey you never know!

you expect amd to bring something thats about 10-20% faster than core 2duo out

so maybe these quad cores absolutley fly at them speeds and they dont feel the need yet to up the clock speed "if they can that is" :)

I'm sitting firmly on the don't trash it till it's out fence.

The people at AMD know they have to at least bring out a product that is on par with a Xeon 5300 or a Core 2 Duo, if they don't then I cannot see how they will be able to compete in the next couple of years.

Maybe the the chip runs clock for clock identical to an Intel CPU which is why they are starting with those speeds, maybe its faster... untill the lauch day and real reviews become available then we are all just guessing.

A question you will have to ask yourself is this:- If you have a Core 2 Duo and this proves to be faster will you change?

Nice reed about what to expect dont know what cores it base on think It tells you can not be sure now but dont have time to reed 10 pages again :)

Hopefully this thread will not turn in to flame wars like with Nvidia 8s Vs ATIR600

barcelona is heavily revised K8 architecture, so its sooped up K8 really, more IPC i believe

if you read that anatech article id say it was more than souped up....more like a very big improvement at every turn! ....should be a great chip!
now i just wish they would hurry up and release the blooming things :)

have to say from the specs up top i'm not impressed.
why not its the server flavour it wont be fast all servers care about is stability
the desktop version has clocks speeds from 2.0-3.0ghz

Yes a lot more IPC. That's why their clocks "seem" so low... These chips are likely to do around 20% more work per cycle than a Conroe.

Don't worry mate, I got flamed to hell and back for the best part of a year just because I had enthusiasm for Intel's NGMA and suggesting it would be ousting AMD from the top spot at launch day.

there are lots on here that would have peoples opinions silenced, but its always good to be a little diverse :p

well maybe not the next 18months but for a long time
Intel have now started to update thier chips every year or so
so amd have to be competive and update thier chips every year
this could start a very good war between them
