Hi

I have just built the following system:

Microsoft OEM Windows XP Professional inc SP2
BFG nForce 4 Ultra skt939 7.1 channel audio SATA Retail box http://www.bfgtech.com/nForce4_motherboard.html (BIOS Version: 1329)
AMD Athlon 64 (ADA4800CDBOX) X2 4800+ socket 939 Dual Core 2.4ghz 1Mb and 1Mb Cache (Heatsink as supplied)
2 x 1024 DDR-SDRAM PC3200 @ 200 MHz
nVidia (Gainward) 7800GTX Ultra 470 / 1300 (256Mb)
Creative X-Fi Extreme Music
Enermax Liberty 620W Modular ATX2.2 PSU
Western Digital WD740GD 74GB "Raptor" 10,000RPM SATA/150 8MB Cache - OEM
Maxtor 300 GB HDD
NEC ND4571 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer LabelFlash ReWriter
Sony CRX320EE CDRW/DVD Combi Drive
Nebula Digital TV Card
Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24" Widescreen TFT
MX1000
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard USB
Thermaltake VA7000SWA Shark Case

Everything has installed fine, BUT, when I ran NVidia Monitor and click on “An unsupported Operation was attempted”

When I click on “OK “ the box minimises and the utility is running as it is shown on the Taskbar, but there is nothing displayed on the screen, if I try and left click I get the options “Move” or “Close” – Move takes the cursor to the top left hand corner of the screen but there is nothing there and close obviously closes the application.

If I click on the icon on the system tray I can get the “settings” option, but cannot adjust the temperature settings

The main reason is to see what temperature the CPU is running at

I then tried to view the CPU temperature in BIOS – is show between (-) 2 and (-) 5 degrees C, which is obviously wrong

I have also tried using numerous utilities (speedfan, belarc advisor, PC wizard etc and it does not show any temperature for the CPU

When I click on the CPU details in PC Wizard it states that Temperature Monitoring (TM) is not enabled, but I cannot find any option in the BIOS to adjust this.

I have flashed to the latest motherboard BIOS and installed all the latest nvidia drivers, but nothing enables me to determine the CPU temperature – could this be a temperature diode / detection error with the CPU or Mobo??

I am completely lost as to what else to try and do not wish to run the games I normally play (BF2 etc) that put the CPU under load as I have no idea as to what temperature they are running at.

PLEASE can you help ??

Much appreciated

I have e-mailed BFG with the same post as above.

I have already flashed the BIOS to the latest version with no luck :(

I might just check the chip tomorrow - for a noob, what am I looking for :D

Cheers

I suspect it's either the BFG motherboard is having a problem reading the on-die thermal diode

Looks like BFG Support think the same

"It sounds like the sensor for the CPU on the board is fried"
