As the title says, could someone please give me a build for the budget allowed, I want a system that will last me for the next 2-3 years at least, as I dont have this kind of money all the time.

Its going to be mainly used for gaming & music, so Vista 64-bit would be the best one for me, and do not need Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers or Monitor, as I have a decent set already, so just the box I am looking for.

Cheers guys in advance :D

Here we go, I have chucked in a 4870X2 although you could swap that out to either a GTX285 or GTX260 to save a bit, also not sure what aftermarket cooler works on socket AM3. If you wanted to save a bit on the ram then you could swap it for some OCZ stuff :)

Edit:- This cooler will work fine :)

This is what i would do if i were to build an amd system with £1200 atm, maybe with a different case:

Maybe change the case to one you like more, also i chose a 1TB drive for storage and the fast 500GB single plater for the OS.

With free postage should only be a stones throw from your budget.

That's a much better spec then mine :/ :p

Change the 500GB Seagate, they aren't brilliant drives - lots of failures at the moment (confirmed by Seagate). Also you might want to swap the PSU as the Antec isn't the best case for cable management and that PSU isn't modular.

^^Phenom 2 is better than C2Q and I don't think you can get an i7 rig for that budget.

Have to say I spent just over £900 for my complete system (see sig) haven't finished over clocking the cpu yet and the graphics card is still stock but the right is very nippy in Vista 64 and pull 15K on 3Dmark06 .....

Can't knock it at all..... :D

If your buying a whole AMD setup now then i would start on the AM3 DDR3 side of the fence, it will be cheaper in the long run.

Hmm i know the .11 drives are very unreliable but i wasn't sure about the .12s, are they as well?

Just realised i forgot to include the os, would put my spec over budget :/ Guess if you drop the second drive and use stock cooling it will be back in budget with an os.

8GB of DDR2 should still be coping well in 3 years, i'm not sure the DDR3 boards available atm even support more than that.

Unless you've got a monitor bigger than 24", then the 4870 will be more than enough just now. The mobo shown is crossfire ready, so if you feel further down the line you need a bit more firepower then add another (will be a lot cheaper by this point aswell). This is the reason I've put in a 700W PSU, so it would handle an additional 4870.

You could save a bit of money aswell and go with the AM3 X3 720 BE, it performs to similar levels in gaming to the quad above, but is a bit cheaper.

DDR2 ram is still going to be good in 2-3 years time, plus with the price in comparison to DDR3, it's coming out a lot cheaper.

Obviously the case is purely your choice, just choose whatever one you like.

16GB DDR3 AMD AM3 atm.
I was not looking at it from the ram point of view but the mobo & future CPUs.
If you get DDR2, AM2+CPU AM2+ mobo then only a next gen AM3 CPU upgrade can be made with out any change to anything else. Every other item will require the change of the others if a Gen change is made to 1 of them.
