AMD Bulldozer Finally!

The chap is the one who is involved in purchasing for the company.

Ah right, thought CAT-THE-FIFTH meant the guy was an AMD employee.

Personally even if it's not quite on par with i5 I feel I should get one just to support competition. Intel have been doing great work but it'd be bad if AMD were forced out of the desktop space.

However, if it slips again then I'm not going to wait - this computer is on its last legs, I can't afford to.

My point was who cares what BD can do under LN2? Nobody really. :p Rather see what it can do under 'normal' circumstances IE - Air/Water.

Contradiction because the bencher cares obviously & some others do care also as its a sport to see who can run the fastest & is no more practical then drag racing as 99.999994% of the population will never drive a drag racing car or drive at those speeds but some people like to watch anyway.

Finally gave in and got a 2600k rig and sat happy at 4.8ghz. I do however hope BD is a good chip, i've always had AMD rigs and will always support them. Upgrading from my 1090t to 2600k is like night and day though, BD really has a lot of ground to make up... i hope it goes well!

For something like HandBrake a Core i7 2600K is only around 5% faster than a socket 1366 Core i7 or Phenom II X6 at the same clockspeed. Even at 4.8GHZ it would make around 25% faster in total. For gaming, a Core i5 2500K would have been a better choice overall.

If I had a Phenom II X6 based rig I would gave just waited until at least Sandy Bridge E and Bulldozer were released this year.

Is it compulsory to post in this thread if you get an intel system or what're all the posts about ppl getting 2500k or 2600k systems to do with BD?

Simple, I'm tired of waiting and since I would have needed a completely new system except for the GPU I decided to go with an Intel system after years of using AMD.

The delays were just too many for me, I truly hope BD is competitive though, we all need it.

What does it matter? I posted I was getting one, IF BD wasnt upto the same standards. Comparisons are what enthusiast forums are all about.

Look at the thread title and look when the first post was made. That's the main reason why most people have wandered off and bought something else.

Lol :)

Well it's that, and that it most likely won't ever run on my 790 AM3 board... Silly AMD, if it was a drop-in replacement I'd not even think about the upgrade and just shell over some £££, but if I have to do motherboard as well then you bet I'll compare it to Intel's current line up!

what SOCKET will Bulldozer use, wondering what motherboards are out that would support my current CPU and Bulldozer infuture

You need socket AM3+ motherboards to support BD. Not to be confused with Socket AM3, which I think unfortunately has the same pin layout and is a disaster waiting to happen...?

(Or if I'm really lucky, some enterprising yoof will wedge a BD into his old AM3 board and discover it works.)

Haha yeah no doubt that person would have been me lol. Thanks for the heads up

"The things i can tell you.

1. Bulldozer is here mid-Sept
2. Bulldozer will be very price competitive vs Sandy Bridge
3. Bulldozer is awesome - ha lol.
4. Every part is unlocked
5. It can OC very well!
6. AMD will be doing something special with LN2 very soon - 1-2 weeks. "

the same was said about 6970,and that is going to be fastest gpu..whats happened we know lol
they (all retailers) need to hype (especially after so many idiotic delays) and they need to sell (especially when so many ppl went for Intel),simple, and ppl who went for Sandy made absolutely right decision,i for one went for Sandy after 1st BD delay, coz i was sooo sure amd never going to release it on time, and i was dead right
Even now, nearly 1y after Sandy they still dont have it,thats just poor management, ppl just lost interest.Even if they match Sandy it will be fail - 1y late,Intel 4 cores>>>amd 8 cores..not expecting miracles from BD..just lost all confidence in amd,and by the time we really need 6 or even 8 cores (not for showing how big my e-penis) Intel will probably release much better cpu's
amd just shot themselves with this bd releases and promises

That was said by a forum member on OcUK not a retailer.

Yawn!! Had fun exchanging out your motherboard?? Luckily I got a Core i3 2100 myself but a few months after the SB launch.

BTW,where was the official announcement from AMD about a launch date earlier in the year?? AMD seem to be selling out all their CPUs this year so it is not that bad for them.

If you don't need so many threads with your CPU then an 8 thread Core i7 2600K is for E-PEEN then. A 4 thread Core i5 2500K would have been fine.

You are talking rubbish and it sounds like flip-flop to me.

Is it compulsory to post in this thread if you get an intel system or what're all the posts about ppl getting 2500k or 2600k systems to do with BD?

I agree!! Very strange behaviour which smacks of flip-flop and E-PEEN. I don't understand why people are doing this and I myself have been an Intel user for the last few years due to better SFF PC choice.

Well I'd still rather buy a 6-core Phenom II than a 2500k or 2600k. Just waiting to see what Bulldozer pricing and availability will be, and then it will just be a choice of Bulldozer or a Phenom II x6 (in an AM3+ board in either case). If x6 prices drop after Bulldozer release, they will be even more of a bargain than now

Some manufacturers are offering BIOS updates on high end AM3 boards to allow them to run a bulldozer chip, such as the CHIV.

This guy is the first rock-solid source to give their (priveleged) perception of how Bulldozer will do. This is actually quite big.

Also, I guess that all but confirms the 19th release date.
