AMD Bulldozer Finally!

This should be stickied to the forehead of this thread!! :) (oo-er!)

There's no way I am going to change a perfectly useable board for BD, JUST to find out that the second generation (which is less than a year away afterwards) requires an entirely different socket type! i.e. FM2. Absolutely pointless in AM3 users with BIOS support for BD to be upgrading to AM3+

No one is forcing you to upgrade...

yea but asus and gygabite has already pointed out and retailers that few amd3, are compatible with bulldozer.

No, he's been clear that AMD will offer no support for BD on AM3, the motherboard vendors though are offering support and BD will work on some of the boards.
I see, but how does one go about fitting a Socket 942 cpu into a Socket 941 motherboard?.

Yeah it does sound odd, i'm kind of wondering where the extra pin would fit in a 941 pin socket?, i might actually count how many pin sockets there are in my Asus Crosshair 4 formula zif socket :D
AM3 CPUs doesn't use all the holes in an AM3 socket apparently, but I'm not going to bother count them to find out!

most am3 socket as all the pin holes open but a am3 cpu only uses 941 of them
Oh right ok, then i might just count them om me crosshair 4 just to see for myself, how sad am i :D, but i am really curious. Now.... do i have the patience without complaints (especially if i lose count... lol) :D

I know Asus have the AM3+ test bios for the AM3 Crosshair 4 formula so i'd be suprised if they forgot to check pin compatability hehe! (or have they? ha!)

Guys, if Asus, Gigabyte, AsRock etc are claiming compatibility with some existing boards, you can be pretty damn sure they've tested it with real chips and confirmed that everything works.

As to some 'power-saving features' possibly not working properly, I'm quite sure this is advanced clock gating.

Further speculation, until reviews come in, is pretty pointless.

save yourselves the time - The boys at xtremeforums already have. Very rarely have any AMD CPU's actually used all the PINS available on the socket. Yes there is one minor difference between the AM3 and AM3+ socket - but this doesn't affect BD apparantly. The REAL reason only some boards support BD is due to the tracks on the motherboard - most manufacturers chose to skimp out and didn't bother connecting one pin, others like Asus did connect that one pin which is why the can 'guarantee' BD compatibility. Its been discussed to death on all forums including this one - look back to pages 30-50!

Think about it - Asus are still selling the AM3 CHIV as being Bulldozer ready - you think they would do that without REAL testing, just to face lawsuits for incorrect advertising?

Another thing - The chipset doesn't mean anything either, as witnessed by the many AM3+ 890 boards being sold.

I completely understand why AMD say it will only be supported on AM3+ motherboard - it guarantees compatibility for ALL AM3+motherboards that way. But at the end of the day its the motherboard manufacturers who can make it work on AM3 and WILL support it - doesn't matter whether AMD do or not.

We'll only find out once the end product is released....

Don't generalize what the guys over at xtremeforums are doing.
Some have both 890 AM3 990 AM3+mobos & they like to upgrade anyway even if there was no BD.

Them boys have too much monies to burn lol ;)

"Some" have also already tried BD and say that it won't kick ass until FM2 generation appears......

Its the some that say sod all about performance on XS and know how not to break an NDA who actually may have one and tried one. Although the ones who found their B0 steppings in the skip at the back of the factory would be under no NDA as OBR demonstrates.

Don't even bother with OBR, he's nothing but a Liar and Troll. He's been caught multiple times fabricating "benchmarks" and results.

Infact don't even mention him, the less hits he gets the better. Never believe anything from that person.
