AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I worked it out at 949 lol

3rd row from the top to the third row from the botttom 27 hole and 31 holes across = 837, top 2 lines and bottom 2 lines both have 56 holes each so that makes 112

837+112 = 949

But my maths suxs, so I probably got it wrong :D

31x31-20

is 941

the socket would be 31 x 31 if it was a square made up with no pins missing, including cutouts for the corners.
3 pins missing per corner is 12, 8 pins missing in the centre of socket, so 20 pin holes missing in total from a 31x31 socket, so its 941.
Plus the PGA 941 that sometimes Motherboard manufacturers refer to on AM3 boards is kind of a clue.
AM3+ is if anyones interested before you start counting lol.
31x31-19 so 942.

Jeez AMD release it already so am not sat here counting holes :)

31 across and 31 down = 961
take off three for each corner = -12
four groups of two pins missing = -8

total = 961 - 20 = 941

the only reason there are no reviews is because bulldozer performs poorly. There is no possible explanation, which is why there is no price drops on i5/i7 from intel. The big chip companies will have industrial espionage, also they will have gotten benchmarks from OEM's so releasing benchmarks won't effect competitors at all, only customers buying the chips.

It a shame with just 3 weeks to go there are no benchmarks on retail silicon :(

No benchmarks from AMD is usual business for them until a product is launched, so I wouldn't be worried just yet.

I'm expecting on 1-4 thread 8-core BD will be approximately 5% slower than SB. However on 4-8 threads I'm expecting approx 20% better from BD :) As long as it falls within them sort of ranges and is priced competitively against SB - It'll suceed and I'll be all over it as soon as its released.

jamming it into my CHIV lol :D

We said very cleary that benchmarks would be released at launch. That has been the case all the time. You shouldn't expect anything before then. Maybe a demo (like the one at VMworld this week and the ones in Dallas last month) but no benchmarks.

My parents don't know what I do for a living.

My brother was once working in tech support at best buy (our version of dixons or currys) and my mom once said "I have two sons, one is really successful in the computer industry...and the other lives in texas."

just catching up with the thread and caught this....... parents huh!?

Are you saying there'll be no reviews until the day people can walk away with it from a shop?

That's a bit unfortunate if so. Plenty of people like me will buy it anyway, but will want to know results and how they compare between AM3 and AM3+ ... especially those with the CHIV like me and so many others.

On this note, does anyone reckon the 12+2 phases of the top AsRock board will offer a major advantage in OC'ing?

if thats the case - just WAIT :)

worst case 1 week after launch there will be reviews everywhere - until then I'm holding off as SB still could be a better buy - who knows

but forthe sake of a week - I'm waiting to find out :)

Can't. Must have :P

I don't really want to wait as I suspect demand will massively outstrip supply. So I'll definitely be pre-ordering.

Or perhaps AMD have got the leaks under control, considering there's no leaks about the new GPU's either and considering those are only a few months off, we'd usually have leaks by now.

Just had a wee scan of the last few posts, do correct me if i'm wrong but will BD now work on the white AM3 sockest but with features disabeled i.e my 890 FX?

lol - not sure that'll be a problem - who knows - we have no idea how much stock will be in the supply chain

BUT I suppose you could always pre-order - and (not that you have to) - leave boxed - and you'll have 7 days to return anyway if you chnage your mind after reviews come out

I'm REALLY hoping for this range of CPU-s to be a good-un as I fancy a change to AMD:)
