AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I just recounted all the pin holes in the socket and i now make it 941. So how is a 942 pin cpu going to fit into a 941 pin socket?.

211 pin holes in the green.

AMD release it already so am not sat here counting holes :)
Sorry that was my fault i over counted the pin holes. If one thinks about it, it actually states on the motherboard i took that photo of ...Socket 941, so therefore 941 pin holes, lol. So, no bulldozer on this AM3 mobo for me.

The AM3+ socket has 942 pins, but no one still knows how many pins a BD CPU will have. Remember, the AM3 CPUs don't use all 941 pins, they only use 938. It's been like this with past CPUs, so it's likely that BD will use maybe 941 or less pins. The extra pin holes in AM3+ will perhaps be for future generations of BD.

You could just look up the pin counts on wikipedia, rather than relying on your own wonky counting :P

From memory, pre BD chips on AM3 leave 2-3 slots spare. BD has 1 or 2 pins extra and DOES retain pin compatibility with AM3, despite nominally being AM3+. This has been confirmed many times.

lol - not sure that'll be a problem - who knows - we have no idea how much stock will be in the supply chain

BUT I suppose you could always pre-order - and (not that you have to) - leave boxed - and you'll have 7 days to return anyway if you chnage your mind after reviews come out

I'm REALLY hoping for this range of CPU-s to be a good-un as I fancy a change to AMD:)

I'll get and keep a BD chip what ever happens. I just don't want to rebuild the guts of my PC more than once. Having large hands and a Thermalright Archon cooler, just detaching that and fitting a new CPU (whilst retaining mobo) is irritating enough.

I know the chips will have been being produced for 8-10 weeks by launch, so there should be some supply. However, bear in mind that Llano & Interlagos are produced at the same 32nm facilities and GlobalFoundries are investing in major new capacity due to not being able to make enough chips for AMD atm. I don't anticipate the kind of shortages that have characterised Brazos, but there's not going to be a surfeit of them even if demand is poor (which it won't be).

Are you saying there'll be no reviews until the day people can walk away with it from a shop?

That's a bit unfortunate if so. Plenty of people like me will buy it anyway, but will want to know results and how they compare between AM3 and AM3+ ... especially those with the CHIV like me and so many others.

On this note, does anyone reckon the 12+2 phases of the top AsRock board will offer a major advantage in OC'ing?

I am not saying anything about reviews, just that benchmarks come out at launch.

Ah, right. You meant AMD issued benchmarks. With you now.

Are you able to tell us how long before release the NDA expires? 10 days? 2 weeks? 1 week?

Not just AMD issued benchmarks. (Do they even bother to issue any?)

No benchmarks. No reviews. No nothing till NDA is lifted.

That does not preclude persons with test chips releasing data 1 second after the NDA is lifted from their already performed benches/tests. Assuming ANYONE has any other than AMD.

Buying on Day 1 blind is foolish. Utterly foolish - Because as much as there is a chance it will be 128918291x faster than anything else in Scenario 1 it might be shockingly bad in Scenario 2. You are just hoping that scenario 2 is not your usage. It's an extreme point of view but it illustrates why waiting at least a few days for data is wise.

What about me? I dont want to spend my money supporting (way too big) Intel. I know Im going to get the AMD on my next system and I don care if its loosing some battles. Hmm.. dont care if it loses all of the scenarios. Its still going to be AMD all the way for me. From this point of view, its not foolish. Not for me.

lol - why the allegiance ?

I when it comes to Nvidia/ATI(AMD) or Intel/AMD

buy whatevers fastest for the buck :)

would you do the same when buying a car ? please don't say so ...

As someone who has only built with AMD and currently has a Phenom II and two 6970's it still sounds a little foolish.

Maybe so. People may buy whatever they want. I have this privilege also. Indeed I do have Phenom II 1090T right now (bought it when it arrived) and gtx580. Theres no "war" going on but I do know what I want and for what reasons. Before 1090T I had Intel for (too many) years in a row, now its AMD time for me ;)

lol ot you tell me. We have Volvo V70 and Chevy Suburban ( srry ot..)

I'm with Mollari on this one - I WILL NEVER BUY INTEL!!!! What other choice than AMD do we Intel haters have? :p Someone bring back cyrix lol

lol can't see how any one can "favour" any one major manufacturer over another ?

anyway - there we go - its whatever pleases people- and people have their own choice - I'm holding off for reviews though :)
