AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Is there a definite release date for this CPU finally? Or is the 19th Sep still on? Sorry if it's been said before but this thread is long.

fudzilla claim 19th september but AMD won't confirm, it appears they will announce and the same day it goes in sale.

There's no chance of that. Retail partners would go ape-**** if they couldn't publicise it before the day it went on sale. There'll be a week, at least. For this reason, if we don't hear by the end of next week, it won't be the 19th and it's fairly unlikely to be this month.

It's far from certain but 19/09/2011 is the most likely release date we've had ever since Bulldozer speculation began all those years ago.

Apparently AMD usually lift their NDAs 10 days before release so I'd start to be worried if we didn't hear anything on 09/09/2011 (next Friday).

Can you give a single reason for this? OCUK aren't selling it now, and aren't advertising it, what possible disadvantage would OCUK have in not being able to advertise it early?

90% of people who might buy a Bulldozer, already know about it, the day it gets released, they'll know about it, and the day it goes on sale, they'll know about it. OCUk will probably barely have enough stock in the first days to supply 1% of the people that will buy Bulldozer's in the next few months, as is the case with pretty much any product...... so who could care less.

I imagine "90%" of people with a PC bought it as a unit - and when shopping for a new one have no clue what's just around the corner. The vast majority just want to walk into a big purple PC store without a computer, and walk out with one. OCUK forums are the equivalent of people who know every component in their car engine and take great pride in it. I on the other hand, just want a car that responds to all the controls and doesn't break down, and don't give a hoot who made the pistons, camshaft, tyres, brakes, etc :)

I think it's "The Dilbert Principle" (an actual proper book by that author) that features a case of a company who made computer installations to last 10-20 years. Just as they had produced a new line, marketing got wind that the one they would produce in 2 years time would be much better - and told all their customers. Who stopped buying, because they were looking at long term purchases and a couple of years wasn't much to wait. The company went bust over the next 12 months due to lack of sales.

Admittedly we don't think of PCs as lasting 10 years - but a lot of people do expect 3-5 out of them. Broadcasting to the market that your new product is better and faster than anything on the market, significantly before launch date is dangerous. A 3 month slump in desktops and laptops would hurt... Not to mention if AMD then failed to make release date, it would be mighty embarassing!

I'd advise you to think a little and to not use completely made-up and inflated statistics :)

Can you think of a single major product launch where this has been the case? No? There's a good reason.

Whilst under NDA, major system builders won't even be able to talk to large clients using anything more than vague, wishy-washy terms.

If this is not out by the end of this month, Thats me done, Wish i had gone 2500k months ago now!

Dont mind small delays, But into October is taking the ****!.

As above I have been wanting to upgrade for the last month or 2 and have been holding off to see what Bulldozer is going to perform like.

I am giving it till the end of this month and that that's it will be swapping this i3 540 for a 2500K.

we don't know the reasons for the delays.

but tbh i don't mind the delays if they tweaking/fixing bugs..i would prefer them taking them time to release a good product without issues rather than hurrying the product out with issues/bugs

While I agree.
There's a certain point at which it becomes ridiculous... BD passed that about 2 years ago.

I mean they only announced it 6 years ago :p.

At the moment, it looks to come out either September/October.
