AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I've got a 2500k, brilliant CPU.
BD will have lower IPC than SB.

Which is why it's always brought up "Why do you care about single threaded performance".

Obviously, because as Thuban proved, 6 cores aren't really ever used in the real world yet.

But I am just guessing, BD could come out with better IPC, but I doubt it.

The kind of arrogance, evasion and denials in JF-AMD's post are the exact reason that i as a long term AMD user deserted AMD and went Sandybridge.

Steady on son thats very harsh. We are close to some kind of launch (paper perhaps to begin with?) so all of the benchmarks will be available using retail chips from reputable sources.

So you went SB good for you who cares.

Intresting chart Skeese - if true at least there is further life in the am3+ socket/boards and would provide a future upgrade path.

I can't wait for the pricing to come out I have a budget of around £350 for my upgrade which equates to £150 for a mid range 990FX board, £150 BD cpu and £50 DDR3 RAM.

I have already slowly been upgrading via the members market and have recently aquired an Xtreme 5850, a second 500gb F1 Sata HD for 1TB of Raid 0 Data and a Crucial 60gb SSD for the boot drive.

I'm hoping I will be able to put together a nice quick Bulldozer 8 core system which will last me quiet a few years - and by adding a better PSU I would have the option of adding a 2nd 5850 for crossfired fun as a fairly cheap upgrade if games start to become too demanding.

What's the point of this thread again?
I mean, if you don't and won't know anything about it
until its launch day, which we don't know either???

well imagine if AMD came out with stats and dates - then the big massive competitor just decided to spam with their advertisement and dates ... maybe drown out the little guy.

This way they can be a little surprising and perhaps steal the show for a bit ...?

Can't really see what the problem is here. Just wait until it comes out. Some of the posts are just ridiculous, it sounds like some people have a magical crystal ball. Wait until release.... is it good? Yes, then buy one. Is it bad? Yes, then go Intel. Wow tough concept for some to grasp. Don't really see why some people are getting upset by this.

SB950 doesn't give native USB 3.0 support. There's one inaccuracy.
Also, where's the PCI-E 3 support?
native USB 3.0 support & PCI-E 3 support will come in the next socket/chipset change, most likely q1-q2+ 2013...

most people don't care if it dose/doesn't have native USB 3.0 support.

where it says usb 3.0 in the slide it could be a mistake/typeo just like the ram speed

You're missing the point.
That chart says SB950 and lists USB 3.0 as a feature of it. Wouldn't that denote native USB 3.0 support? Which it doesn't have.
I'm going to say the chart's fake. Because it's got inaccurate details.

where it says usb 3.0 in the slide it could be a mistake/typeo just like the ram speed in the slide but when u read the article it states the right speed

Also, graphics is spelt wrong.
Sorry, but that chart's so fake it's unreal.

It should be ignored.

They'd proof read it. I'm sorry, but that chart's got to be fake.

Even if it wasn't. It shows the new socket FM2, without PCI-E 3 and USB 3 support. Which isn't realistic.
Also, AMD call them "modules".
It says "core" not "cache".

And some of the people making the most noise have already made their choice with going SB already, so either they want BD to fall short or they are angry that AMD did not have it out sooner if its better and due to not having the patiences of waiting ended up going SB.

Either way the suspense of having peace of mind is killing them.

I think people just want something interesting to happen.
We thrive on competition.

Yes but i see no point at all in getting worked up over it.

I'm not getting worked up over it.
It's just I'd have liked to stay AMD. But I wanted the performance they weren't offering at the time.

I'd say I was peeved because of the delays and utter lack of information about BD.

I mean, before SB launched, we had a very good idea of how it'd perform.

As for Ivybridge? Intel have already stated IPC gains and rough figures.

if your meaning virgo it does show USB 3x4 support

I missed that, my bad, I was on a roll :p. But it states SB950 has native support, so it's frugal.

Here's the inaccuracies ;

Graphics is spelt wrong.
The RAM speed is wrong.
AMD say Modules, not "4 Bulldozer cores"
It says "Cores" instead of cache
SB950 doesn't have native USB 3.0 support
It shows FM2 without PCI-E 3 support which isn't realistic
