AMD Bulldozer Finally!

But the reason consumer BD isn't ready, imo is BECAUSE of the AM3+ platform.

Doesn't matter, this is going nowhere :p

I think AMD would have productions issues on a new Design no matter what & it would be like saying the production process that's available and the problem that the fabricators have makes no difference to the time scheduled.
Even the GPU side has delays & its not because of backwards compatibility.

but if FM2 motherboards out first, how would people test the board to see if the board working

I mean the full platform coming out together.
If AM3+ and Zambezi weren't around, we'd probably have FM2 and CPU out by now, I'm guessing, as they wouldn't have had to worry about backwards compatibility.

What is interesting though, is AMD's cancelling as of today.. Quite massive infact..

Why?
It's not like it's the norm to fail to release a product.
If it's to be believed that Zambezi is crippled for AM3+, it's not much of a leap to assume the platform is causing the problems.

We could assume lots of things but there is nothing to back up that the delay is because the design was crippled as if the only time a design has issue is when its being crippled, but if that's your opinion then fine.

Komodo's been scrapped.
AMD's new line is to be Q3 2012.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/di...r_Corona_Platform_in_Favour_of_New_Chips.html

Guess that proves Komodo going to AM3+ was a bunch of balls.

But it also means that Zambezi is AMD's performance product till then.

UNLESS, the delay is to bring Komodo forward as Zambezi, removing AM3 compatibility completely, regardless of current BIOS's (I want it to be this)

Ironically, means Gareth guessed correctly about FM2, but only because of AMD changing its set up.

So when has Intel/NV or any for that matter has delays is because they are crippling something.

And that has to do with AMD removing Komodo how?
I don't recall Intel.
But Nvidia, Fermi? That was meant to be 512 shaders at X core speed.. It got delayed and delayed and came out crippled. The true Fermi was the GTX580...

i had a strong feeling that would happen

But it was not crippled for compatibility reasons but for production & FAB issues.
The issues maybe purely FAB & the delays because of the FAB & nothing todo with AM3+.

You don't recall Intel because they released with the problems intact & recalled or just left it in place.

Honest opinion guys... I'll have the cash in about a week from now....

Given that it's clear that AMD are either not able, or not willing to release Zambezi in Septeber, am I better going down the Intel Core i7 2600K route with the bigger expense, or get myself a shiny Asus Crosshair V Formula board with a cheap Phenom II X4 980 BE chip, then getting a Zambezi chip next year?

No need! Get a 955 or a 965 BE, and clock it to 980 spec. More bang for your cash, really. Although, if paying that much for a 980, why not just get a 1090T as a stopgap job till next year?

I guess really because I can't really see a big difference between 4 cores, and 6 cores at a lower clock speed. Although I guess I could overclock the 1090T to a similar speed to the 980 right? Although saying that, I could also overclock the 980 to be even faster.

I dunno mate, I just don't know what to do. I think I've settled on the Crosshair V Formula board though... love the feature list on it :)
