AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I guess really because I can't really see a big difference between 4 cores, and 6 cores at a lower clock speed. Although I guess I could overclock the 1090T to a similar speed to the 980 right? Although saying that, I could also overclock the 980 to be even faster.

I dunno mate, I just don't know what to do. I think I've settled on the Crosshair V Formula board though... love the feature list on it :)

You will not see any difference if you have nothing to take advantage of it.

True, but I would clock an x6 over getting a 980 for essentially the same price. Plus x6 has the turbo core feature. :D Depends on the uses of course, but if you are getting a quad and can overclock, getting something that is already near the ceiling at stock volts isn't that good of an investment.

All talk of crippling platforms or processors is not true. Who would benefit from spreading such rumors?

And Interlagos is now in production and shipping for revenue.

Honest opinion guys... I'll have the cash in about a week from now....

Given that it's clear that AMD are either not able, or not willing to release Zambezi in Septeber, am I better going down the Intel Core i7 2600K route with the bigger expense, or get myself a shiny Asus Crosshair V Formula board with a cheap Phenom II X4 980 BE chip, then getting a Zambezi chip next year?

You lose nothing as the 2600k is still a damn fine chip.

It would just be finacially advantageous to see what BD is like.

So has BD been postponed now untill October or later?

If you need the 2600k, the 8 core BD will be better for you.
If you don't need the 2600k, then just get a Gen 3 board with a 2500k.

Interlagos is shipping, so it's not the fab obviously.
It's got to be the platform.

And it's not in AMD's benefit to see "Yes we've crippled it" of course you're going to deny it, true or not. End of the day, there's no Desktop BD chips being shipped yet.

Komodo's been scrapped.
AMD's new line is to be Q3 2012.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/di...r_Corona_Platform_in_Favour_of_New_Chips.html

Guess that proves Komodo going to AM3+ was a bunch of balls.

But it also means that Zambezi is AMD's performance product till then.

UNLESS, the delay is to bring Komodo forward as Zambezi, removing AM3 compatibility completely, regardless of current BIOS's (I want it to be this)

Ironically, means Gareth guessed correctly about FM2, but only because of AMD changing its set up.

Changing direction does not prove what something was going to be or not before the change.

We all get accused at times of never intending to do something in the first place when we change our minds & we all know that is not always true.

That leaked graph was a few days old, I'm sure they didn't wake up one day and go "Sure, AM3+ can have Komodo" to "We'll scrap Komodo" a few days later.

Servers gets the CPUs production first like always, we wait for the crippled CPUs.
OEMs get the first GPU shipments, we wait for the crippled GPUs.

Hmmm ok then, I'm thinking 1090t at 4GHz should do me fine till next year :)

I'm just splashing around £1000-1100 on a complete new system ready for BF3, MW3 and the host of other games due out soon. Gonna get stuff I want to get, rather than just getting cheapest. Going to get just a single HD 6950 GPU (MSI OC Twin FrozR III PE) for now though, then add a second next year when I also get the Zambezi CPU... does that sound sensible?

What leaked graph ? there has been so many which i didn't actually look at.

The one I said was fake.
It's from the thread you posted.

Where it said AM3+ was extended with Komodo.
With them scrapping it, it obviously was fake, like I said it was fake.

It's not really sensible.
Intel has proven performance, AMD have speculation and delays.

That's the current playing field.

I didn't look at the graph or what was written, i just looked at the heading & linked it.

Speculation is fine & it can work both ways, but the delays are never good for image.

Oh, sorry. In that case with a 1K budget to drop on a system and no platform you are bound to by the mobo, you really do get the freedom of choice. As above, SB is already on the shelves, there is a good range of products and no major hardware issues left. BD is a wildcard. I personally would wait a week or so before a major game release I wanted to play, and get what was most capable for the money at the time. :)
