AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Would I be correct in assuming that the previous record was achieved on a matured Cedar Mill process, so for BD to do it pre-release is a strong indication of potential for even higher world records and high/safe 24/7 clocks?

It will be interesting to see if SB-E can counter punch BD in the world record with its BCLK unlocked. SB-E could be forced into a price war ;)
 
Daft Q, but will there be a new chipset released along side BD?

Or is the AM3+ the socket it is being released for? Will there be a wave of newer motherboards, still based on AM3+ but tweaked for BD?
 
So still not got a new PC yet and been asking loads about them until i heard about these bulldozer cpu coming out which im waiting to see what there like. Just like every one else. I heard last month that there where ment to come out on the 19th of September which is tomorrow i dout this is still true??. :)

Am3+ is the socket its released for, but some AM3 boards are compatible.

No, the current Am3+ motherboards are already designed for bd.

Current rumors say mid to end of october, no idea how true these are though.

Allot of people are missing the fact the previous record was only on a single core, whereas this record was on two cores. They easily dismiss this as o its only like that on LN2 without even lokking into the article which even goes further to reveal what sort of clocks were achieved on top-end air / water and phase cooling. Was a good event tbh - First bit of REAL news we've had on BD for a long time instead of speculation
 
But they got 5.5ghz on air cooling - even if us mere mortals only manage 5ghz and its 10% slower than Sandy thats still amazing for the prices quoted to get 8 cores at 5ghz. From the gossip on XS some people are saying its speed rivals the extreme i7's but without the cost to match.

My quandary is do I splurge a big amount on top end Bulldozer, or go for the cheapest slower eight core, go for a mid range six core @3.2 or go for the fast 3.6 quad - if
the quad is super cheap say £100 or less it will be tempting but then again if I could clock the slowest 8 core to 4.5 with something like a Gellid Tranquillo that might be the smart long term
move as more games take advantage of multi-cores in the future. My heart says go top end and OC the 3.6ghz 8 core to 5.5ghz and no upgrade required for a long time, my head and wallet say
save some cash and either go for the mid range 6 core or faster quad.

Can't wait for the reviews and official figures to start coming out.

Irrelevant? How is it? It shows progress. Maybe not progress in helping you get that extra FPS on screen, But scientific progress none the less.

Landing on the moon, What has that done for you?

Hitting a land speed record, What has that done for you?

Hitting the record for deepest sea dive without apparatus, What has that done for you?

These are all still records, regardless if you care.

8.5ghz, Is another record. Some people care about it. You dont, So just shut up and carry on.

Also... swearing gets you suspended, And I'm pretty sure that particular word counts.(although I'm not sure)

You really do have a **** attitude, It turns up in most your posts. It's kinda funny
