AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I first remember hearing AMD were working on BD about six years ago so they have been working on this for a longtime and so far it isn't looking like that amount of time has paid off. Of course we might all be wrong and the final release product is a stomper way better then what we think right now but i seriously doubt it.

There's no way in hell every benchmark is fake though :p

Well the low IPC thing does sound beleivable unfourtunalty.

The fact it was delayed, so they could up the clock speeds, is an indicator, that they needed to up the clock speeds to compensate for low IPC.

Sounds like a massive flop if it turns out true.

It changes nothing. Just refreshes the current Phenom 2 line up. A rebranding more than anything and 2 extra cores...

Is there anything about the Phenom 2's that it does well or better in comparison to Intel chip?

Or is it just about price/performance again?

Just price/performance, iirc sandy bridge is better in every way except price, although than obviously depends which specific chip you look at.

Tbh a 8 core 5ghz phenom 2 would still be fairly quick in highly threaded apps, so even if ipc is the same its not all bad.

AMD are in trouble.

The only way for them to rescue the situation is to play the "bang for buck" game again.

Price/performance is subjective depending on CPU's use.

Which Intel has only gotten better in. Intel could just drop prices. They probably won't like.

I'll repeat again, AMD are releasing new code to be inserted into BIOS releases every couple of days or so.

Meanwhile, the trolls will continue to ignore this.

Yes, because they're going to let the reviews be gimped aren't they on a product that's been delayed this long?

No one's denying or ignoring it, we're looking at what's there, not some magical updates.
You're choosing to ignore what's there.

Zoomee in seemingly anti BD post shocker.

lol! - Even I'm beginning to doubt it but hey- its first gen, so I might just skip this one tbh mate.
Their working soo hard on the CHV BIOS - I don't think us CHIV owners will get the same love, and theres no way in hell I'm gunna change my CHIV for a measly 0.2% upgrade :P

It's a FACT that they're continually releasing new code. You and others continually ignore this and continue to spread the fud. What happened to waiting until the NDA expires for reputable reviews, hmm?

Various people with press kits around the web have stated that for the CHV, there are 3 beta BIOS - all of which were released very recently ... the latest one, late on Friday. It was also stated that the latest one improved performance significantly across the board. The leaked reviews on CHVs do not use this BIOS. The leaked reviews on other boards most probably do not use latest either. More revisions are expected.

I doubt if it's intentional as some people are saying (though early engineering samples may have been intentionally crippled), rather that management said it was launching and their coders are scrambling to finish optimising everything. Bad publicity, sure ... but everything points to this NOT being final performance.

Perhaps, but it's not going to go from meh to flipping brilliant with a BIOS update.

You choose to ignore what is shown. We've never chosen to ignore updates, we know there will be updates, we simply doubt the "SIGNIFICANT PERFORMANCE INCREASE" :p

EDIT : Beta BIOS, my bad yo'.

Pointless arguing, this is getting dull.

For the people who continually ask what NDAs are for ... this is precisely one of the reasons why. Some people have breached that, and now the **** hits the fan because they've published results on non-final setups.

Anyway, I'm out.

Edit: There have been THREE revisions since the BIOS you mention above. Now do you understand?
