AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Oh, the blue screens is bad news.

I wonder if AMD are even trying to make this stepping anymore, or have they sacked production off until B3 is ready?

I seriously doubt the 4xxxs and 6xxxs are locked down to meet quotas. They could get twice as many 4-core chips as 8-cores from the same wafer, so it would be ridiculously wasteful to just disable half the cores on an 8-core chip.
Since we know GF currently have abysmal yields, it's a safe assumption that some of them are 8-cores with one or two failed modules though. But they'd be stupid to lock down fully-functioning modules.

Anyway, why are people still talking about a "fix" and speculating about replacement programmes for people who bought the B2 stepping? These chips aren't broken, they're just not very good at some things! Just cause we were hoping for something spectacular doesn't mean AMD owe us anything! If you're disappointed by the performance, just return it ffs. Unless you keep getting BSODs or something that clearly indicates your particular chip is broken, stop whining!

the BD are unstable at stock, theres either a bug with the cpu or a bios issue.

if it is a bug with the cpu then yes the chips are defected. thats the way i see it..

u should read some our posts then you'd see we talking about the BD are unstable at stock, which needs to be fixed. if amd can't fix it by a patch bios or whatever, people would be within they rights to rma it because it doesn't run stable, so amd would have to replace with a stable one

Ah, sorry about that, you miss a single day of this thread and it's like missing a month in a soap opera! :p That's a real shame though, hope it's just a few isolated chips! I find it very unlikely that this is a general thing, as surely someone of all those dozens of reviewers would've noticed something running hours and hours of intensive benchmarks!
