AMD Bulldozer Finally!

given up waiting lol, with no release date given so close to apparent launch iv nabbed an i7, cant go sandybridge as the platform is riddled with bugs and problems for anything pro audio from research, only seems to be one or two combinations of chip and mobo that will successfully work :S bah... shame as i was really looking forward to grabbing an 8 core, looked on paper to suit pro audio down to the ground with its multithreading :( hope its a killer and il take one next year when the refresh may or may not happen lol, most probably be 2013 however ;)

Just a quick question here, Does anybody know of the motherboards which will support Bulldozer? I know boards out now such as the crosshair IV will be able to and the fact that they might make new ones, Im just curios to whether my crosshair III Formula will support it otherwise im going to be getting a mobo bundle soon :(

Just in case people misunderstand ... these are the second tranche of Bulldozer CPUs scheduled for release in September. One above the top 8 core being launched soon, 3 below the the lower clocked 8 core, 6 core and 4 core.

First tranche will still be June / early July.

I'm gonna be honest, right now its looking like my next upgrade will be Intel unless BD comes out and beats SB convincingly while not requiring me to upgrade my motherboard.

I'm getting processor envy here :p

Meaning another gen of Intel to compete with. Nice

No, September is the ETA for the first refresh. June / July is still launch for first chips.

Also, Sandy E (Q4) isn't really 'competition' as platform cost will be a minimum of 2x the price of the most expensive Zambezi CPU & board. Most configs more like 3-4x.

Ivy Bridge launches in March or April '12.

Seems like switching to Intel with your setup would be a waste of money. Even if you had to wait a bit, you only need a new CPU for a (hopefully) big boost. Plus, your current CPU isn't exactly rubbish and should last a while anyway. Just avoid the upgrade bug. ;)

AMD never made that claim. We have only made claims on server performance.
Heh, I think people are making claims for you at this point. :)

I understand a lot of the power management is done in the motherboard, yes? Does this mean that if I'd stick my B55 in, say, a 990X board, it could take advantage of the improved power management features? Or are those only for the AM3+/FM1 specific CPU chips?
