AMD Bulldozer Finally!

When the Athlon 64 came out they were as expensive as Intel processors, when the Athlon X2 came out the cheapest was a couple of hundred pounds so if BD kicks ass don't expect to get one cheap.

I am looking forward to seeing what this chip can do ,AMD have been talking about it for what seems like an eternity and finally we’ll get to see it .I really don’t know what to expect from it performance wise ,does anyone have any info ? but I hope that it is on power with Intel’s i7 range .Intel needs some competition with similar performance ,this should help to drive down prices ,which given the current economic climate would be welcomed by all .

I'll be looking to replace my Mobo/CPU/RAM soon since it's only a dual core [email protected] but it's kept me going for a long while and was very cheap. :)

What I'll be interested in is if AMD can get an 8 core CPU out at circa £130 that overclocks well, if that is the case then I'll be investing in a BD chip as soon as the dust has settled. I'd imagine that the Mobo's are going to be reasonably priced too, don't mind spending £100 but anything beyond that just isn't worth it for me personally. Only problem then is I'll have SATA600 and then want to finally purchase an a new gen SSD!

Oh I can see this is going to be an expensive Q2 2011 for my poor wallet. :D :p

It will probably be more along the lines of £140-£160 which wouldn't be too bad either.

I just thought I should post this.

Someone over at guru3d has posted supposedly real AMD Bulldozer Preview Benches.

I`m not sure how trustworthy the source is though and if these are really real.

I would want to know exactly what model of BD they are using in those tests....

If its an 8 core BD (which i assume it is), then those scores are what id hope for when compared to current 4/6 core models TBH.....

According to the the guys post, the preview benches are of AMD's Zambezi ''Bulldozer'' processor.

Which will come in 4,6 and 8 core versions...so comparing an 8 core in benchmark suites to a current 4/6 core Phenom II isnt exactly an apples to apples comparison.

However, If those scores came from a 4 core BD....then i'd be impressed..:D

...but i doubt it.

What I do find impressive is the Crysis Warhead results. That game doesn't really benefit much once you get over dual core but we're looking at matching Sandy Bridge clock for clock.

I wasn't expecting Sandy Bridge matching performance with only a couple of threads running.

Edit: hang on. Some of those leaked benchmarks are old. Early April 2010 old...

If those benches are real, it looks awesome for video encoding, even if that is the 8-core version. Intel would probably be faster if they sorted out QuickSync with Z68 though.

Here's a tip:

Benchmarks will come out at launch.

If anything shows up before launch, look to my blog. If we have not specifically released anything through my blog, then it is not an official AMD benchmark.

Assume nothing prior to launch and watch my blog. All of the other details are not generally worth the pixels they are written with.

AMD will not leak details, so if you see a chart, you should know it did not come from us. If we are going to actually put data out, you will see it in my blog first.

Period.
