When GPU mining stops becoming so popular, do you think that will create a flood of AMD GPUs on the market and then reduced prices?

Or is it more likely that the mining craze will be around for the forseable future?

I don't think mining is about to go away anytime soon.

I just did some google price searching and you can grab the 780 for quite a few pounds cheaper than the 290. Very surprised, seems AMD is always been the cheap brand.

The value of LiteCoin and BitCoin has almost halved in the last week or so, the number of used AMD GPU's appearing on the market is increasing a little. not that anyone should buy an ex-coin digger, i would think most of the used ones at this time are.

If the value of CryptoCoin stays low sales of new AMD GPU's will fall sharply, at that point so will the price of them.

It makes no difference to AMD.

The high prices are down to retailers.

Gamers looking for AMD cards might buy Nvidia instead due to the prices.

If mining is less popular,it means gamers who would have bought the AMD cards will do so,as the pricing will be better.

Moreover, look at the AMD rewards thingy - AMD looks like they are trying to incentivise gamers to use their cards.

I would not buy second hand AMD card nowadays. Image they been running 24/7 100% load for weeks.
Lifespan of those will probobly be down to 30% by teime You buy one lolz

I hope the mining bubble bursts. But your right its not amd that set the price as such its retailers.

I am happy if it means people try out nvidia if they have traditionally bought ati.

And yes I wouldnt touch second hand graphics card generally and especially ATI currently.

My exact position to be honest, my past few cards have been AMD. Never should have got rid of the 7950 iceQ Boost in all fairness, that was a beast by all accounts!!

But now I'm thinking nvidia makes more sense to me since it's not much more expensive, than the equivalent AMDs due to the mining frenzy, but the performance in general gaming seems to be a bit better also.

Just wondering whether 770 makes any sense at this point, or to YOLO it and buy a 780...

Is there a difference between a card geared for gaming and a (hypothetical) card more optimised for mining?
I guess if there was a difference, there'd already be a few mining cards, right?

The mining bubble is like a pyramid scheme

Great for the people who got in early

No so great for the late comers who could end up losing a lot of money on hardware.

And yes the mining bubble will burst and it won't be pretty.

Never had a issue buying second hand cards upto now but with mining i personally wouldn't buy a second hand AMD card anymore as you just dont know

So you're not interested in this old 4870 I got knocking around somewhere, then? :D

nope sorry :) a well set up mining rig gpu th shouldn't really be any worse than a gaming gpu theres cowboys on both sides who dont look after there cards thou and i'd assume with more miners there more chances for cards to be abused simply from the percentage wise
