AMD Catalyst 11.8 WHQL

Man, I'm still on 11.6, currently no reason to upgrade if the one I have works fine. I had a white screen during gameplay in C&C3 if I had AA on so I upgraded to 11.6 which fixed it!

Still on 11.6, best drivers performance wise out of the lot. Will download the 11.8 later and compare in the CoP bench.

Just for people's information... these are exactly the same as the Preview ones with the Open GL 4.2 driver but without that driver.

Played BC2 last night with 11.8 drivers, no crash to desktop or hangs. Was on 11.6, also no video issues (just PB and broadband problems grrr)

I wonder if they've FINALLY started fixing some bugs in the Linux Catalyst release....guess I'll find out if they've squashed the most obvious one (screen freezes when you move the cursor over the KDE system tray) in another five minutes when this download completes. If they haven't fixed anything, then the spec for my next upgrade gets re-done around a graphics card with the nVidia logo on it because I'm sick to death of making the choice between a slow, feature-light and slightly buggy open-source driver or a slightly quicker and horrifically buggy proprietary Catalyst package.

Tee hee.

I really am actually laughing, though I shouldn't be. Uninstalled the 11.7s, rebooted Fedora, loaded up fine. Installed the 11.8s, rebooted. Fedora now tries to boot, gets halfway, stops. Reset the computer, tried running up with an older kernel from the boot options menu, same deal. Loaded up a LiveCD to see if xorg.conf had gotten trashed, looks perfectly okay to me. But the system just won't boot any more.

So we've gone from buggy and not particularly fast all the way up to plain destructive. Nice one AMD/ATi :p:D

Oh well, what's a half-hour out of my life reinstalling in the morning? I'm almost a bit glad that ATi's Linux driver team are so monumentally useless, keeps me on my toes....
